I worked at PA Consulting Group full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Struggling to identify any. Oh, if you enjoy travel then great! You jump on a plane Monday and home Friday. Awesome work-life balance.

    Cons

Total disregard and contempt for their staff. Zero pastoral care from senior management. Zero support from their HR / Talent team. Take note people...those 400 new jobs announced in Belfast.....run a mile! Do not get sucked in by what they promise. The office environment is horrendous for a start. It's a complete joke.

    Advice to Management

Take a good look at yourselves and honestly re-assess your previous performance with looking after your staff. Your attitude is disgraceful.

    Disapproves of CEO

I have been working at PA Consulting Group full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Individual freedom, trust, some great colleagues, exposure to senior management of high-calibre clients.

    Cons

    - Bonuses are awarded on profits, while the company is pushing for growing revenue and headcount. Don't expect much bonus at year end.
    - We hire many while suffering a higher than average staff turnover. Quality of the new hires is at risk. Also, profits go down with headcount growth. See previous point.
    - Salary is less than average.
    - The new office looks and is great to work in, but there isn't much available when you want a break, apart from the instant coffee and still water (hot and cold).

    Advice to Management

    - Look after your people.
    - Increase transparency, make targets visible and openly discuss the implications of pursuing them.
    - Transform the internal IT: in 2018 I would expect to be able to access the company's intranet from the company owned mobile phone, as well as having a choice of laptops and tablets available for consultants.

I worked at PA Consulting Group full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Gain lots of experience very quickly , a chance to try out a number of roles or sectors. Can choose the direction of your career but lots of public sector

    Cons

Values and environment not for everyone - promotion inside the company can be difficult
Can be hard to gain any career focus - way too much public sector work over the years

    Advice to Management

Keep sales and delivery separate - combining them does not create excellence in delivery . Pay your consultants what they deserve

I have been working at PA Consulting Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Traditionally the people we hired were very good, still a lot of great people around. However, with growth being the main driver, the standard has decreased.
It’s all about increasing headcount now

You get freedom to do what you want - but this also means it’s down to you/luck as to whether you know and work with people who care about your development.

There’s a lot of easy things that could be changed to make a huge difference (the incentive model). The hope is when we get sold, the new owners will change this and PA can be a great place to work again.

    Cons

A lot of lip service paid to culture and diversity but this is not backed up with any action - one example is HR are still unwilling to take names off CVs despite this being discussed for many years. This is an old boys club.

The new brand makes no sense but corporate continue to pat their own backs.

The strategy is to grow headcount - that is the only strategy as we prepare for a buyout. There is no vision apart from this

Ranks are inconsistent between the different sectors and services.

A lot of work is just project management.

    Advice to Management

Learn to care about your people rather than pretending to.
Listen to staff surveys rather than spinning it into only positives back to the staff that filled in those surveys.
You know what’s wrong, do something about it
