I worked at PPD full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Resigning was a relief, free coffee at the client site was OK.

    Cons

All said above in the review headline. Never go for a functional service provider type of job. Never believe in beautiful posters for culture of transparency either... Be ready for the jungle of corporate corruption and misleading.

    Advice to Management

Managing a team of 4 in the UK by skype from Ireland or the USA is not a recipe for success, least of all when you put idiots in charge of your health and safety. Good luck with future HSE inspections on site and recruiting more junior staff you can easily fool.

I worked at PPD full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Relatively flexible work arrangements (depending on how is the manager) with possibility to work from home once a week (on different day each week). Good place to hang out until something better comes along.

    Cons

Toxic and vindictive environment, untrained management with narrow minded approach. Extremely boring and repetitive work, more suited for a young administrator than the accountant. Very conservative and rigid approach to "analysis". Often using wrong tools for the job. Challenge and improvements highly discouraged. EXTREMELY high staff turnover, unstable environment. Arrogant managers.

    Advice to Management

Start treating your most talented staff with respect and listen to feedback.

I have been working at PPD full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Good work culture to get experience with advanced systems and software. Work life balance is given considerations

    Cons

If you're working from home then you'll feel isolated and would not be able to explore and develop . So there is a limited growth opportunity

    Advice to Management

Need to consider employees who are working from home and to give them frequent chance to meet other colleagues by arranging a meetings or events and give them opportunity to grow more.

I worked at PPD full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Personal experience with upper management and c-suite was really positive, and I could see real attempts to improve an atmosphere of pressure and strict deadlines. Flextime and work from home were both available. Good location, ok salary for the role. New business and culture initiatives are being launched, promoting inclusivity and community. If suited to a quiet, serious (old-fashioned?) work environment it's a good fit.

    Cons

The office itself felt dated and tired. Canteen isn't a great price when so few other options are available in the area, but kitchenette drinks options are poor. It was hard as a new hire to feel welcomed and part of something. The office could feel very isolating, especially with the lack of guest wifi and tight restrictions on computer web browsing, made worse by the location's poor phone signal - being unable to be notified by home security devices or be contacted by doctors was frustrating. There was a lack of clear communication channels for issues with HR, benefits or pensions and emails would sometimes go unanswered. There are far too many clunky systems - though this is potentially improving soon.

    Advice to Management

Implement new hire procedures to ensure people feel included and welcome. Brighten up the kitchen areas and throw in some soft drinks and fruit to encourage people to use them and take breaks. Streamline systems and support teams.
