I worked at Palo Alto Networks full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

For many years, Palo Alto Networks has been an amazing company to work at. The culture has been so unique, the people the absolutely best you could work with in the industry, and the customers, products and technology all something to be extremely proud of. It was a big thing to be part of.

    Cons

Everything changed in 2018, and in just 6 months this company fell hard, very hard, from it's place of grace. There is absolutely nothing positive left to say about working at this company. New leadership has brought along a culture of hostility, lies, verbal aggression, lack of integrity, no transparency and a heavy focus on cost cutting as the (subjectively speaking) ability to drive business growth is... non-existent. There are no career progression opportunities, compensation is being cut to below market level, bonuses are being cancelled, new hirings are stalled, backfill are rarely done. People are leaving this company, fleeing to save their careers and avoid the increasingly bad reputation of the company as employer. In today's world you have the option of choosing who/what to work for. In my opinion, Palo Alto Networks should not be considered an option.

    Pros

Until the middle of 2018, was THE Company to work for! Great salary and benefits, achievable quota if you worked hard, fabulous tech and stellar reputation all backed up by knowledgeable management and a single mission.

    Cons

not sure where to start - apart from the new CEO bought in has managed to destroy the Company. Ill thought out, dodgy acquisitions, paying many multiples of true values to acquire borderline failing IT Security startups, strangely funded by the new CEO's ex employers at various finance firms leading to cronyism at the highest level.

    Advice to Management

Leave and bring back the 2015/16/17 cohort or Palo Alto Networks will sink rapidly and the share price will be junk status.

    Pros

Pay is competitive RSUs and ESPP make you money - Stock is performing ok Strong Security Brand In the right market space you can make good money

    Cons

Work life balance. Lots of scrutiny on employees. Plenty metrics and boxes to tick. Revenue is still heavily dependent on physical firewalls - away from physical firewalls, the security landscape is more competitive Rapidly growing security platform through acquisition - It's challenging to keep up and present the best sales message The company culture seems to be changing constantly. There's a serious Google... influence with lots of ex Google hires. Sure, there are some good folks but they don't seem to represent the old PAN culture. The move to GSuite is questionable - not the best tool-set for productivity - a frequently heard comment

    Advice to Management

Set realistic goals around world security domination. Acquisition does not automatically mean execution. Give all management a more useful role beyond simply enforcing corporate box ticking - e.g. mentoring, coaching, career guidance Hold on to the culture, it's a key reason for people to come here and stay here

I have been working at Palo Alto Networks full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

We have been the most successful company in one of the fastest growing spaces within IT, and one of the most important and visible industries to society today. That definitely has created a positive environment overall -whether that is sustainable or just purely dependent on continued success is a different question. Never seen a company with the will to win like this one. Its infectious - so ambitious and... driven to be the best and then keep getting better.

    Cons

Seems to be a lot more bureaucracy than before The support structures like HR and so on don't work. Not that they aren't good, but they haven't grown anywhere near enough as they needed to as the rest of the company has. New management seems to be forgetting what made the company successful in the first place - not from a technical point of view because that is required, but from a cultural one. A lot of... quick management changes, of well loved and well trusted people - replaced in a "not so gentle" way, almost always by ex-Google execs. Losing some of the humility that we have always had.

    Advice to Management

Everyone knows change is required and is coming - we get it. But don't take that as an excuse to trample what made this place great. People are starting to talk about the "googleification" openly and you keep confirming peoples fears. For example - If you asked employees the 10 best ways to improve the company -not one person would ask for G suite. Just think about it.

I worked at Palo Alto Networks full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Good firewall platform, promises of great wealth and successes.

    Cons

I’d never recommend Palo Alto Networks to anyone. Unachievable quotas, extremely poor & ignorant middle management. Scrutiny and micro management of employees throughout. If you want a job here then expect immense pressure, bullying, stress and pain. Couldn’t wait to leave.

    Advice to Management

Conduct an anonymous survey for your sales team as to what they really think of management.

    Pros

Great culture, huge earning potential for good Sales people, usual benefits for a large US Tech Company, collaborative and can do attitude from the top down and the best products to protect our digital way of life. I am proud to tell people I work here.

    Cons

none that spring to mind - maybe getting a little to much red tape around certain compliance and regulatory adherence - just needs careful watching, so the tail doesn't wag the dog..

    Advice to Management

keep doing what we are doing
