  1. Oil Company

    Pros

Company will typically pay very well and give out good benefits. Vehicles and gas cards are provided for all supervisor positions.

    Cons

As with all service companies, when oil prices fall, jobs become very unstable. Some supervisors are very hard to work for but that is to be expected.

  2. Bad Executive management

I worked at Patterson-UTI Energy (More than a year)

    Pros

The oilfield in general has decent pay and benefits as long as the price of oil stays high or level. On that account it doesn't necessarily matter what company you work for.

    Cons

Poor Executive level management. The senior staff at the company have a tendency to micro-manage their division and regional managers to the point that nothing can be done locally without corporate approval.

I worked at Patterson-UTI Energy full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Salary was the only reason to work there. When we were laid off, no 60 day notice was given as required by law.

    Cons

It's the oilfield so we accept long hours and being away from our families but this company has no strong structure that you can rely on

    Advice to Management

Get people in n place who knows how to manage people. Not because they play golf with someone. You kniw you have problems when you routinely have to use your nuisance fund to avoid lawsuits from employees

I worked at Patterson-UTI Energy full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The area manager in Tyler along with his is good man along with his staff.

    Cons

Failure to take care the honest working employee. The manager of HR has no clue about loyalty or what she is doing. Looks for escape goat to avoid issues seems to be the standard. I've followed the rule of management for 35 years but was dismissed just to show that something was done to avoid conflict with another employee. A man's honor has no bearing on anything.

    Advice to Management

Put people in the position who know what they doing instead the buddy system. Just because a employee makes a mistake doesn't mean fire him.
