Great people, product, and vision

Pros

Honestly, it's been great. The company’s vision is exciting and the product feels like it’s really making an impact, which makes the work super motivating. What stands out most though is the culture—people genuinely care about each other here, and it’s such a supportive, passionate group. Everyone works hard, but it never feels cutthroat. It’s fast-moving for sure, but in the best way, because you’re surrounded by smart, driven teammates who actually make it fun.

Cons

Can be intense, but still rewarding!

Pros

Seriously intelligent people. Really great vision and products. Very humble co-founders - almost to humble and self deprecating, but it's a pleasant breathe of fresh air compared to the typical. It feels like Persona is going to be the gold standard in ID management and Fraud in no-time. Incredible product people that get stuff done.

Cons

The main issue I have seen, and have felt, across multiple organizations, is that there are people in Heads Of, or manager roles, that certainly should not be. There are people that are leading teams or groups that are way over their skis. Somehow got the title and power they have and are not good at it. With the way the market is, and so many layoffs, people on these teams are too afraid to speak up about their managers ineptitude for fear of being blacklisted and thusly being laid-off. This sentiment has been shared directly with me by several people across a few teams.

I appreciate your comments about our people, vision and products. As a company, we will be the first to admit we are not perfect. The main issue you’ve felt about managers is something we’re working on, and we hear you. But what’s most concerning is that at some point you, or someone you know, feared speaking their mind without repercussions. If we have led you to believe that you should be afraid to speak up about anything, at any point, then that is a mistake on our part. I apologize on behalf of Persona. Persona is a People First company. What that means is that we’re all people - and by nature we’re not perfect - but we do have the capacity to learn and be open to one another and have honest conversations when things are tough. And we can grow together and make change, from that openness. I encourage you to voice any concerns (if not to your lead), then to our People Ops team, or any other leader here. We will also be releasing an anonymous survey system later this quarter to give folks an opportunity to express their concerns freely, and to give us more opportunities to learn where we can do better. We hope you continue to enjoy the positives of working at Persona, and we hope to build an environment where you and others can feel comfortable speaking your minds about issues big and small.

Toxic work culture

Pros

• Innovative platform. Constantly iterating and delivering incremental value add to customers. • Great onboarding framework for new employees. • Challenging but fair sales quota targets

Cons

• Toxic culture of micromanagement and lack of trust that is masked within the 'Work in Public' company value. • No work-life balance. GTM leadership has little respect for personal time and habitually contacts employees late at night and on weekends - expecting immediate replies. Speed and urgency are more important than employee wellbeing. • Inexperienced leadership - many first-timers in their respective roles. • Being a product-driven organization, the Sales team is also forced towards a communication style focused on writing/documentation - which takes way more back-and-forth to get things done - many things that could be settled over a 5min Zoom call get dragged on for days. • Poor use/implementation of internal sales tools. • Inadequate geographic distribution of supporting GTM teams which makes day-to-day work challenging if you're not based in San Francisco • Travel is required on weekends as they frequently schedule company events in San Francisco on Mondays and late on Fridays - not taking into account the needs of remote employees that need to travel. • Demoting people from AE to SDR roles. • Compensation Plan drastically changes every quarter. • Decreased employee benefits in 2023

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts with us. We appreciate your positive comments about our platform, onboarding framework, and fair sales quota targets. That said, we are sorry to hear that this was your experience at Persona. We pride ourselves to deliver incredible service to our customers and prospects. And as a startup, this sometimes means a more demanding work environment for our go-to-market function. Regardless, it is on us to be a responsible and caring employer. We take all constructive feedback seriously and welcome you to contact our HR team to discuss your suggestions for improvement at any time. We wish you the best.
