A huge disappointment

Pros

- The people and original company values are what attracted many, including myself, to PicnicHealth initially (patient-centric, open and honest culture, less political than other companies) - Salaries for some roles are above that of similar start-ups - Remote working

Cons

- Leadership is floundering, and it's only getting worse. It is painful to watch so many bright, talented individuals get beat down or burnt out by incompetent leaders. - Decisions are made with an alarming lack of evidence or thought. 1-2 people are ultimately steering the sinking ship. - Company is resistant to learning about how the life sciences sector works, despite this being our primary customer. We cannot 'innovate' our way out of the realities of drug development. - Having a female founder unfortunately does not make PicnicHealth immune to the tech Boys' Club culture. Women will only get anywhere as an agreeable "Yes person".

No Longevity

Pros

- My coworkers are some of the best people I have ever worked with. There is strong camaraderie, and I trust my coworkers. - Work is meaningful

Cons

- Overworks employees, you can keep work/life balance but you really have to be the one to set boundaries and not care that your job performance might suffer. Constantly saying that priorities and workload will be reassessed, but nothing ever changes - Leadership constantly asks for feedback, but little/no action comes from feedback - Lack of clear priorities. Every quarter leadership says things will be prioritized, but then every task is top priority - Sales is king. If you aren't on the sales team, what you contribute to the company is not valued or respected - Lack of career growth. If management likes you, you will mysteriously rise to the top with no communication or preparation to be there. If management doesn't like you your career will stall - Product is extremely buggy and unreliable, but any attempts to make bugs known are not taken seriously - Feels like lack of interest in retaining people. Management makes it clear that people are replaceable - Lots of bait and switch about titles, promotions, raises so you never really know what you are going to get as far as performance reviews and compensation goes - Recent layoffs disproportionately affected minority employees which feels very suspicious from a diversity & inclusion perspective

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We love to hear about your positive experiences with your coworkers and that the work you do is meaningful. We hear your feedback on work/life balance, boundaries, and priorities - we are taking steps to ensure that work is spread equally across teams and priorities are clearly identified. As a growing company at our stage, titles and promotions are something we want to get right. We would love to continue this conversion - if you are comfortable, please reach out to the People team. We want to work together to build the best company possible.

Poor leadership

Pros

Some of the work is interesting and there are some great colleagues.

Cons

Agree with other reviewers that leadership often makes erratic decisions with little planning or communication. Most of the exec team do not understand the life sciences market that they are in, not only do they lack experience and integrity, they sideline anyone who does have either. I’ve seen lots of talented and hardworking colleagues get pushed out or had their careers stalled for trying to do the right things. It’s really a shame because there are some great people at the company who were drawn to the mission only to find out that the mission is really just a marketing ploy.

Thank you for taking the time to provide your review. I am sorry to hear that working at PicnicHealth was disappointing to you. We hope that everyone who spends time on the PicnicHealth team finds some - and ideally a lot - of value, no matter how long they are with us. We take the feedback from our employees very seriously, and have used it to make improvements over time (e.g. through our quarterly team pulse survey and 1:1 conversations with colleagues who share feedback live while they are on the team). Our mission and values, including our commitments to the patients and partners on our platform, are our north star - which is why ~90% of our employees feel proud to work at PicnicHealth. And why I am surprised, and saddened, by your experience. I hope that you have found a new role/employer where you can thrive. Thanks again for the time and energy you invested at PicnicHealth.
