    Pros

    Nice people to work with

    Cons

Management can sometimes not listen to employees, the company as a whole should look to focusing on a specific kind of customer

I have been working at Pier 1 Imports full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Good work hours
    Friendly co-workers
    Good training
    Good support from home office

    Cons

Salary is not sustainable for someone having to support themselves

    Advice to Management

To stop the revolving door of fulll time staff pay them enough to live on. You invest $$ to train them and build the brand then they have to leave because they cannot afford to live on the hourly salary for a full time staff member.

I have been working at Pier 1 Imports full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

I love the atmosphere and the people I work with. We are all one big family, and that is hard to find in the workplace. The customers are nice and love the brand just as much as we do! I have been with the company almost 8 years now, and I have had several different 2nd jobs that were nowhere near like Pier1.

    Cons

The opportunity for advancement is almost absent. I began 8 years ago as a Sales Associate, and am now Assistant Store Manager for going on 2 years now. It seems that in order for me to move up now, I will have to relocate to another city/state, which is not an option for me right now. The hours for associates that really put in the work are not good. They get no more than 8-12 hours a week. Pay is good, with chance for a yearly raise depending on employee performance. I also feel like there is too much pressure surrounding the credit card. Selling strategies have seemed to change from delivering a great customer experience to pushing a credit card in customers faces.

    Advice to Management

Stop wasting money on printing useless information and spend it on the associates who work in brick and mortar stores selling product that makes this company money.

I worked at Pier 1 Imports as a contractor

    Pros

Good working environment. The company really cares about its employees. 4 weeks vacation right away. Full on Agile methodology for development. Work from home one day a week is expected.

    Cons

Company is in upper management shift right now and is having a difficult time focusing its efforts. This is an import company in an ever increasing difficult environment.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the employee appreciation. It's really helps to motivate.

    Pros

They do have good beginning training. Do training at the beginning of evey shift usually too. Teach you how to sell the credit card too

    Cons

Just a bit over mimimum wage when i worked there years ago. Pay could be better. Requiring workers to press on credit card too much

I worked at Pier 1 Imports part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The actual work is quite simply. Anyone can do most of the job roles and responsibilities. It also seems like anyone will get hired.

During busy seasons, there is a lot of opportunity for overtime. There is a step program in place that increases your pay rate depending on a review. Once you graduate from the step program, you can get a pay raise once a year.

There is a point system in place to keep track of your attendance and punctuality. This system is probably the only way to actually get someone fired if they point out. It's not an issue if you just go to work when you're supposed to and get there on time.

    Cons

Management should be more competent. During the time I worked there, various supervisors came and went. The ones that stayed seem to have a lot of interest in the company and how to manage employees to begin with, but those feelings seemed to fizzle out. Supervisors aren't strict enough and let many employees get away with just about anything.

There are plenty of employees who could have a better work ethic. The lack of working by some employees is off-putting and lowers one's motivation to work hard. Some employees are given too much leniency when they make multiple mistakes. In my opinion, some of the employees should have been let go after certain situations.

    Advice to Management

I would advise management to listen to the employees that put in the hours and meet their 'quotas' on a regular basis instead of the employees that have proven to slack off. Also when there is a problem, management should be more transparent on how they handle situations instead of sweeping things under the rug.
