I worked at Pioneer full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

The company had a fairly supportive working environment and encouraged continuing education. Focus on quality research and products.

    Cons

Work life balance wasn't ideal and extensive overtime is expected. Upper management has unrealistic expectations of what can be done with little resources (monetary and staffing). Extensive change has led to instability during the recent merger and spin.

I have been working at Pioneer full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Friendly peers, work/family balance encouraged, telecommuting allowed, flex time, pay/healthcare is average

    Cons

Upper management act like you don't exist though we are the ones who actually do the work, if you don't have a PhD you are less than and forget promotions, 20 years ago Pioneer was a family...not anymore...it's all about pleasing the shareholder..forget the employee and farmer.

I worked at Pioneer full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Great colleagues, good pay and very dedicated to its published core values.

    Cons

A disconnect between a true understanding of upper management and the nature of the agricultural business. Goals are too closely connected to quarterly cycles of Wall Street and not to the cyclical nature of agriculture. This business should focus on the long term outlook. In the last few years, there has been too much reorganization, restructuring to make the business attractive for the merger with Dow and tremendous talent loss.

I have been working at Pioneer full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

For most positions at Dupont Pioneer you will have a flexible schedule. You just need to clear it with your manager. Good Pto, average benefits, ability to move around.

    Cons

There are very few promotions. You must get a new job to advance. Upper management is a bit sketchy. They have not made the best business decisions lately for the company, customers or employees. Large shareholders are the primary focus.

I have been working at Pioneer full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

I have over 25 years with Pioneer. I have seen a lot of great things happen when Pioneer leadership was in charge. Before DuPont took over we experienced some bad market conditions. Much worse than of current market conditions. Pioneer always survived and found ways to grow through these times and retain staff and keep the eye on the prize. Pioneer still have some great people who are trying to hold on to their career. DuPont is making it difficult by grabbing all their profits and disabling Pioneer to survive as they have done in the past.

    Cons

Most Pioneer management and upper management have been pushed out by old arrogant Plant management from DuPont. These people do not have an AG background and disrespect for Pioneer success in the past. DuPont's track record as of the past 15 to 20 years is terrible and known for ruining companies to the point that have to sell them off and cut their losses. They have done the same thing to Pioneer. They have run the company into the ground and now are going into a tail spin. They are cutting jobs and replacing with DuPont people who do not have a clue on the AG side of business. DuPont puts on a front that they have great respect for people and ethics and they shove this down your throat. Yet their actions do not display this. Now with the merger of DOW and then a split into three companies DuPont has announced the leaders of the AG company. No surprise that they are all DuPont Executives who again have helped DuPont go into a tail spin and take Pioneer down with them. DuPont is just a bunch of money grabbers that has disabled Pioneer's beliefs and abilities to be the great company that they once were. Will be interesting to see if they survive. Right now its like working with people who are near death and is a very depressing environment. They give spirit surveys once a year and are very upset when they don't come back favorable and they punish Pioneer for their honesty. Paul Schickler is Pioneer and CEO of just Pioneer, but the CEO and executives of DuPont have pretty much disabled him to practice as Pioneer has in the past.

I have been working at Pioneer for more than 10 years

    Pros

some really intelligent employees with a good work ethic better pay than academia

    Cons

    1) upper management lacks good leadership and cannot be trusted; for example they had an incentive plan in place and then after the year was over and the monetary reward was to be distributed they decided to not give the pay to the employees 2) salary workers are expected to work overtime but not given the tools to do their job efficiently 3) processes put into place that make extra work for employees to do the job for which they were hired, while the company cuts computer programmers, human resources departments, and administrative staff 4) benefits have been on the decline starting in 2010
