Pros

It's an easy 9 to 5 job, you can have a life outside of work. Good to work there for a while and use as a stepping stone for something better, as everybody has been doing.

Cons

The company is not trying to come up with an actual product, but prefers to sell conceptual demos of very rudimentary proprietary technology bundled with other products. Great ideas have been around for a while and have been actively silenced. Management is trying to enforce an authoritarian culture in which everybody is expected to sacrifice themselves for the company, yet no real incentive exists and innovation is not encouraged. It's a clear case of "responsibility without authority". Treatment by management is based entirely on how well they get along with you. If they don't like you they will treat you poorly until you resign or swiftly fire you if you dare to speak up. Once you're labeled as a "negative person", you know you're on your way out. Directors are not chosen due to their competence, but to show off their years of experience for military contracts. A lot of talent was lost due to lack of upwards mobility and these directors seeing team leads as a threat to their authority.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and feedback - we really value the chance to hear these critiques and the chance to address them. Related to your comments about our product development, we have invested heavily in growing this function. In the past month, we’ve brought on a new Head of Product and continue to build this team. They will focus specifically on developing our product market fit while jump-starting our commercial product development. Rapid iteration is required when building a fast-growth organization in a new industry - it requires that our team members are nimble. We have made and will continue to make deliberate adjustments to our operations that prioritize the well-being and development of our people before anything else while blazing the trail within a new industry. Thanks again for taking the time to write this review and giving us the chance to address your concerns. - Claire, Senior Manager People Operations

Pros

There was a really great team at one point. Hard working, mission driven people who wanted to serve the ALS community and build a consumer product. Unfortunately, many of these team members have largely left the company.

Cons

The company itself is not pursuing either ALS or a consumer product seriously. Most of these projects have been abandoned in favor of Government contracts (DoD). Demos are favored over building a product, so most projects go by the wayside quickly - which leads to the company being entirely directionless - pursuing short term money over any tangible future. Leadership barely understands the gesture control technology that has been built. Suggested improvements to the core tech are actively ignored. Real improvements that are made to the core tech are either discredited or lambasted because the they aren't understood. The culture is toxic. Honest feedback is treated as "toxic negativity" and rooted out. Hard working employees and discredited and slowly phased out for trying to improve the culture or technology. There are rumors that those who spoke up have been fired.

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. We are listening and learning from mistakes we’ve made in the past. We will continue to acknowledge challenges and obstacles as they arise and implement solutions like team onsites, feedback sessions for our executive team, and communication from leadership that gives more visibility into strategic decisions. We’re investing in our Product team and with that our ability to make progress quickly towards a better-defined product market fit and long-term commercial product strategy. It won’t happen overnight, but we have heard the feedback on this and are directing resources to these efforts in a deliberate way. It’s not always perfect, but we try hard and we are committed. We wish you the best in your career. Claire, Senior Manager People Operations
