I have been working at Pret A Manger full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

You'd probably find nice people, and at the end of the day the company respects 99% of the things the contract says. Working for Pret I feel I have a stable job, for a big company, I deliver a nice service to customers, and I'm respected for the job I do.

    Cons

Hours can be a bit crazy sometime (depending on the shop and the manager). Kitchen people start really early, like 5 in the morning, so it's quite hard, and it's something you need to get used to. Cause that means you're gonna wake up 3/3.0 every day, not having much energy to enjoy the rest of your day once you back home.

    Advice to Management

More control about working hours is needed. And working in the kitchen is so much harder and demanding of skills and expectations than working on till, so people working in the kitchen should get a bit more money, cause they work harder. (one word = productivity).

    Pros

Great training and opportunities to progress. Great food that you can believe in. Fair breaks.

    Cons

Perfectionist ( despite the bad press) Hard graft but you will deliver great food and service. Pay is weekly and the team is usually diverse which is fab. Fun culture, big parties in London.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good work!

I worked at Pret A Manger full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Pret provides good opportunities for learning and development to all its team members. These include ongoing training through their well-established academy and possibility to climb the career ladder to general and operations manager level. Other perks that differentiate Pret from the competition are a hourly pay well above the national minimum wage, a weekly mystery shopper bonus, paid break and food allowance.

    Cons

Whilst recruitment from the bottom is certainly a good thing, people are often promoted to higher levels of the management line (team leaders, assistant managers, general managers) for their ability to carry out specific tasks rather than for their leadership and communication skills. This translates in a lack of emotional intelligence, miscommunication and sometimes in a tendency to micromanage teams from either line managers and store managers which definitely kills team members' enthusiasm and contribute to create a negative work environment. Similarly, while a weekly bonus is certainly appealing, it is not guaranteed so eventually your monthly salary is dependant on mystery shoppers' reports.

    Advice to Management

Team Leaders, Assistant Managers and General Managers should be equipped with better leadership, communication and team management training. Also, with a high amount of team members educated at academic level, a higher mobility from stores to departments should be encouraged.
