I have been working at Progressive Insurance full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Good Pay. Good Benefits. Work with good people. Good culture. Recognition of hard work from management.

    Cons

Heavy work load. Has a slight call center feel to it. Tough to get time off around the holidays.

    Advice to Management

When there is a steady trend of increased work, hire more people. Hire enough people to allow flexibility with holiday vacation time. Also instead of giving time off to the first person who asks (in April), wait and get an idea of what your whole team needs for holidays before you give it away.

I worked at Progressive Insurance full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Hugely successful company that is growing quickly. The rapid growth provides significant opportunities for development and advancement across various different claim AORs. Lots of opportunity to find something that fits you from general auto claims to injury to attorney represented casualty claims. If injury is not your thing damage estimating opportunities are easy to come by either in a service center or out in the...

    Cons

Very aggressive management style. Little freedom to do your work without tight micromanagement. Micromanagement is systemic through the software supervisors use which forces them to micromanage and get into claim files. Internal competition is very strongly pushed which takes away from opportunities to help each other out as we are graded on beating out a coworker. The company has an aggressive approach towards comparative...

    Advice to Management

Aggressive and condescending micromanagement in the Permanent claim files helps no one.

I have been working at Progressive Insurance full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - work autonomously - one hour lunch can be taken whenever - friendly work environment, a lot of non-sponsored company events are always going on throughout the months - your work product is a result of what you put in, you are in control of what raise you get when performance evaluation time comes - health, dental, 401K - yearly end bonus based on company performance is very fair - there are always new positions...

    Cons

    - work volume spikes during the summer season - claims applications are outdated and not regularly updated to meet the needs of our times - customers can be demanding at times, expect the worst - no one is going to do your work while you take off, they may check voicemails and any action items however you may come back to work with a lot to catch up on

    Advice to Management

More work sponsored events for the employees, we work hard for the company and deserve to be treated once in a while, at the company's expense

    Pros

Profit sharing at the end of the year... if you can make it that long.

    Cons

Extreme micro-managing, disrespectful bosses, a harsh "close claims or else" culture and they look down on you if you want to take time off.

    Advice to Management

Upper management at a director level is great but local claims branch managers and supervisors need to improve their people skills.

I worked at Progressive Insurance full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

High pay and excellent benefit package with stock options, 401K and profit sharing bonuses per year. Challenging but rewarding work. Enjoyable work environment.

    Cons

Work life balance is lacking. Too much work with not enough employees and no back filling until higher ups seem to realize that the workload is unsustainable and by the with training, onboarding and taking on work on top of your current workload from those that very left makes staying on top as if you're being set up for failure, not to mention poor customer service and decrease office morale.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees when the say the need more employees or at least assist when you have a subordinate or more that are atruggling. DEVELOP, DEVELOP, DEVELOP and don't forget we are a team which mean management should not be above stepping in to help their subordinates succeed as opposed to campaigning to document their shortcomings

    I worked at Progressive Insurance

    Pros

Flexible schedules and vacation preference is almost guaranteed. Coworkers can become an extended family. Gainshare bonus right before Christmas.

    Cons

Extremely heavy workload on Mondays then rest of week fluctuates but mostly high. You are expected to investigate coverage, handle 1st party, 3rd party, single vehicle and multiple vehicles, total losses and everything else unless your lucky to be able to transfer something to another department. You must handle your claim and take live calls to assist other adjusters who choose not to answer their phones. The quantity...

    Advice to Management

Hire and strive to keep your employees. Also, stop with the Oxley report. You stereotype your people and give the "reds" an excuse for their awful behavior.

    No Opinion of CEO

I have been working at Progressive Insurance full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Salary, earned time off. Bonus is good and flexibility for you to take care of daily life from time to time is usually given

    Cons

Work/life balance balances more work than life. Very stressful. Ridiculous goals almost designed for you not to meet them and once you do the bar is moved higher to ensure that you won't meet it again

    Advice to Management

Quit telling us that it is a fun place to work and that we should love our jobs. Make it a fun place to work and allow us to love our jobs

I have been working at Progressive Insurance full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    Great company & benefits.

    Cons

Heavy workload, high volume of claims, micromanagement, and overall stressful work environment. Minimal recognition or positive feedback given to top performing employees.

    Advice to Management

When making new process changes, implement them one step at a time. Do not implement 12 new processes at once and expect employees to be perfect on the first try. Embracing change is not an issue for many, however understand patience is needed due to the learning curve. Also recognize your the hard work and effort your employees are putting in. Recognize that claims handling is not an easy job and show some appreciation....
