      HiPPOs, Nepotism & Great Window Dressing

      Pros

      The founder's vision lives on through a close knit family who genuinely love the brand and the difference they can make to the lives of children. The business survives because of those folk, some in Atlanta but most in the UK.

      Cons

      Decision making is driven by the HiPPO, biased by self-interest. HiPPOs are all 'friend's of Jim' to window-dress PRM like Spectrum K12. Netdragon wish they did a proper due diligence. They won't tolerate the rate cash is burnt and offer bail-outs. Forecast: a very bumpy ride ahead, lights kept on by the founders legacy, friends of Jim will look to jump ship once one of them gets a gig to drag the rest over and NetDragon will juice the brand equity dry.

      Pros

      People who actually did the work within the teams on the ground were great - endlessly patient, hard-working, knowledgeable. Some great talent that is sadly being wasted.

      Cons

      Senior management do not listen, only interested in the share price. Its a company that tried to change from being a hardware manufacturer to being a technology services provider - as it should have done - but then got scared, and decided to make handheld mobile devices just as the ipad took over the world. Great decision. What a shame.

      The UK based team are a fantastic team.

      Cons

      The influence of the US and the new Chinese owners, disrupted the whole feel and identity of the company from 'Let's support education and in doing so make some money' to 'Let's make some money and put things into education'
