Work and Life Balance

Pros

The office is 10-minute walk from BTS Sapankwai, international environment with friendly colleagues and recreations including x-box, table tennis, food and boost. Focusing on human resource and working as a family makes the company and the employees grow together happily. The other benefits are just great comparing to others that I've known. No dress code applies.

Cons

We have party every month and all the staffs seem to be young at heart, if you're looking for a very serious and stressful kind of job or wearing suit and tie to work everyday, this might not fit.

Pros

Nice offices, good salary and work hours, lovely perks such as free drinks and mid-day snacks. Use of new technology.

Cons

Bad communication among senior management and between teams. No solid strategy plan, just random outbursts of activity. A lot of lies. Incompetent entry-level staff. Thai work culture prevails and foreign staff must tiptoe around it. Not a good place for someone with experience - no room for growth. Too much hype about their service; the end result (website design, seo, social media strategy) is often a hit and miss. Verdict: don't bother.

Good people, very bad leadership

Pros

Most of the "on the ground" teams are great to work with, despite being very underpaid, especially the Thai team members, but this only means that the ones with any ambition in terms of career growth don't stay for long due to the incredibly limited growth opportunities. This leaves behind the ones who have less ambition who are, often, also less skilled.

Cons

The horrible leadership is the overwhelming con - the Managing Director who has essentially replaced the owner, Derek, after he stepped back from the company is actively running the company into the ground, and the majority of the best people have abandoned ship over the last few years. The MD's ethics have been called into question a number of times in recent years, and unless you're a favourite of his, good luck seeing any meaningful career growth - he prefers to surround himself with "yes-men" (and women), and has little time for any dissenting opinions. People with far less knowledge and skills are much preferred over people who tell uncomfortable truths, which is a common theme at Pronto - just smile and nod and you'll be OK, even if you do very little actual work, and even less of any value.

Thank you for taking the time to provide this feedback. While quite critical, I do appreciate that you took the time to share this. Here's my perspective on this. Recently, Tim and I had his semi-annual review, including 360 reviews from his direct reports and another 360 from a wider group he works with. Like everyone, Tim has areas of improvement, but overall, he gets high marks. On the 1-4 rating, “Would you recommend working with Tim he got 86% 4 and 14% 3. In the written feedback, no one mentioned an issue with nepotism or related issues. Growth continues to be a challenge for Pronto. However, things are much more stable this year, and so far, for 2023, Tim has met or exceeded every non-growth KPI we set for the year. He’s made some tough changes and is working hard on new directions, and it’s starting to show in results. We speak several times a week, and I have every confidence in Tim, his leadership, and his business acumen. Pronto a sinking ship? Hardly. We’ve passed our 15-year anniversary, and this looks to be one of our most profitable years ever. We have a great team, good customers, excellent service, and a willingness to change and innovate our offerings. Sure, there are always bumps in the road and improvements to be made, but that said, Cory (my son and partner, CEO at Simplesat) and I are quite happy with how things are going and looking forward to the next 15 years. Actually, at lunch today, Cory and I were talking about Pronto, and our #1 worry is, “What if Tim is ready for a new challenge?“. We know he’ll be around for the coming years, but when he’s ready for a change, it will be very big shoes for us to fill. Lastly, if, in fact, you still work at Pronto, I would be happy to meet with you and discuss your concerns. I’m sure we could find some areas of agreement and improvement. But if you don’t want to engage to improve things, perhaps it’s a good time for you to find a fresh challenge within a company and management you respect.
