I worked at Qualcomm full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Good engineers to work with, decent resources for learning.

    Cons

Lots of politics and micro-management. Work is stressful and a lot of pressure is exerted on engineers.

I have been working at Qualcomm full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Good work/life balance, lots of opportunities to learn from colleagues. Still have motivated people that enlighten others. Decent (but not great) pay.

    Cons

Cutting costs, doesn't treat employees as the most valued resource, hence losing many great people. Perks are rubbish. Very rigid if something goes out-of-the-pattern no chance to change it.

  7. "Not awful"

    I worked at Qualcomm

    Pros

The work is potentially interesting. They have some decent people. Free lunches are pretty good. The office environment is decent. Big rewards for the lucky ones.

    Cons

Way too focussed on the US office. Working across sites is not well managed despite pretty resources. The US guys don't tend to get in until late and don't understand that it's unsociable to keep taking meetings late in to the evening. You need to be on the right projects to get the big rewards.

I have been working at Qualcomm for more than a year

    Pros

    They pay you a salary

    Cons

Support services are in chaos, IS have had experienced staff and managers fired, you deal with someone with a script in a call centre somewhere on the other side of the world who is polite but clueless. Calls are then lost and must be chased daily for weeks before anything happens. Director to President level managers all act like they are petrified of being fired and are much more worried about covering their rears and looking good than about actually solving any problems. Bucks get passed instead of issues being worked on, it's like being in a giant game of pass the parcel with the prize inside being a ticking bomb. Promotions are rationed and handed out to favourites rather than on the basis of ability. Everybody is terrified of making commitments in case they can't meet them, so rather than make a decision people call a meeting and try to delegate or escalate until they are off the hook. San Diego is the centre of the universe, but don't have a clue about time zones and expect UK to work on their schedule then act all hurt if we don't want to routinely turn up to meetings scheduled at midnight. Management keep saying "no more headcount reductions" rapidly followed by another round of sackings. Do they think we are too stupid to notice? I worked at CSR for over a decade before it was taken over by Qualcomm, it's impressive how fast they have turned around the company and made it into a disfunctional nightmare.
