I have been working at Qualcomm for more than a year

    Pros

    They pay you a salary

    Cons

Support services are in chaos, IS have had experienced staff and managers fired, you deal with someone with a script in a call centre somewhere on the other side of the world who is polite but clueless. Calls are then lost and must be chased daily for weeks before anything happens. Director to President level managers all act like they are petrified of being fired and are much more worried about covering their... rears and looking good than about actually solving any problems. Bucks get passed instead of issues being worked on, it's like being in a giant game of pass the parcel with the prize inside being a ticking bomb. Promotions are rationed and handed out to favourites rather than on the basis of ability. Everybody is terrified of making commitments in case they can't meet them, so rather than make a decision people call a meeting and try to delegate or escalate until they are off the hook. San Diego is the centre of the universe, but don't have a clue about time zones and expect UK to work on their schedule then act all hurt if we don't want to routinely turn up to meetings scheduled at midnight. Management keep saying "no more headcount reductions" rapidly followed by another round of sackings. Do they think we are too stupid to notice? I worked at CSR for over a decade before it was taken over by Qualcomm, it's impressive how fast they have turned around the company and made it into a disfunctional nightmare.

    Positive Outlook

I have been working at Qualcomm full-time

    Pros

Good to learn new things. Reasonable salary. Despite being large they do seem to make an effort to include Cambridge,

    Cons

Very large organisation. More difficult to get things done quickly. Lots of red tape. Very worried about losing data. Everything is protected. Can slow things down. That said - it's what you might expect from a very large and successful company,

    Advice to Management

Need more processes to connect engineers at the bottom with other managers to ensure the management process works effectively. Badly placed poor managers can cause problems.

"Not so great giant chipset maker"

I have been working at Qualcomm full-time

    Pros

Salary and especially stock benefits (but only for relatively senior positions above staff engineer level, otherwise not competitive enough for junior positions)

    Cons

Office politics, bad managers at all levels (difficult to come across a decent manager), bad decision making, really awkward processes everywhere (project management, expense claim, travel arrangement etc)

    Pros

Very competitive work environment, many excellent engineers , interesting and various products with many customers across the wide world. Very good salary & benefits.

    Cons

business increasing in India and closing down / reducing caps sites in Europe and US. Making lots of roles redundant and laying of people.

I worked at Qualcomm full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Really good work life balance, Management are really supportive, RSU and ESPP options, other benefits

    Cons

As any other large blue chip company, your basic salary will be much lower as Brand name attracts many strong candidates, All people live in their feel good bubble created by company with 20% less salary then of their potential in market. Growing up the ladder is really difficult in the company, due to lots bureaucracy. The rating system , no of years in positions etc etc before you could jump, lots of box ticking.... For IT/Engineers and Senior management this company is great but for support function staff its not the best lets stay unless you want some place for 9 to 5 without challenge and growth.

    Advice to Management

Please make the growth/Promotion opportunities more transparent. Increase the Basic salary on roles in support functions.
