I have been working at Queen Mary, University of London full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great people, always willing to help one another, 35 hour week, more holidays than other institutions. One of the friendliest places to work. Great campus locations and some management teams are flexible which makes staff feel valued.

    Cons

No real investment in infrastructure; IT, HR catering and other business functions are desperately slow. There is a high turnover of senior-level staff and too many high-level decisions are taken by consensus, which means things do not happen quickly. It can be quite frustrating. Little opportunity to progress (re-grading system is laborious) and poor communication between different campuses.

    Advice to Management

Give campuses more autonomy, invest in professional services and infrastructure and understand that we cannot deliver a 5* service on a 1* budget.
