      Pros

I used to be proud of telling people I worked for Rackspace. We were different to the rest, the company that put people first and recognised that in doing so the people would go above an beyond for the company and our customers. It was all about culture, people feeling a part of something bigger than themselves, working together for the greater good. Some people find comfort in having their job roles limited to the point of "Not my job / fault mate. Speak to someone else who isn't me." If you're the kind of person who enjoys the simplicity of reacting to Event Zero then carrying out Action 1,2,3 and 4, day in, day out, without having to think then there's a place for you at Rackspace.

      Cons

Set your watch back 20 years. If you have contact with leadership it's rarely a positive experience, people are afraid to make mistakes or be vulnerable which stifles creativity and innovation. Communication is all one way, set yourself to receive. Problems and issues are buried with a "nothing to see here" attitude. Besides which, you shouldn't be concerning yourselves with issues elsewhere in the business, get back in your box and do the job you were hired to do.

      Hard to work here!

      Pros

Really struggling to think of any other than it is a corporate company and has all the fundamentals it needs to stay afloat.

      Cons

Company culture has gone , this place has non of that. Its not even down to the pandemic, things were getting bad before that. They have hired older white men, manly from IBM to run the show in the UK. Its destroyed any innovation or spark, everything feels more old school. I don't think any leader in the UK really knows what Rackspace is and who we want to be perceived as. No one can tell the RXT story or how to fit their alliances into that story. Nobody understands their roles. The company and many teams change strategy every couple of months. This means you never get see the outcomes of long term projects. You feel like you haven't achieved anything although you working incredibly hard. The atmosphere that these leaders have created is horrible, its as if everyone is hanging on to dear life, working extra hours and doing things outside of their roles to keep them satisfied. Like every other bad feedback that's been left on this page, the company will likely improve BUT there is a lot more that needs to happen first. Please reach out to employees if you are thinking of working here. Do your research!

Not what it used to be sadly

      Pros

Over the years Rackspace gave me many opportunities to develop my career. I worked with great people, we worked hard but had a lot of fun too. I will always be grateful for my time there as it taught me a lot.

      Cons

Sadly in the last couple of years the culture has been eroded. We worked harder than ever, but it was a thankless task. Leadership became toxic, less diverse and all about money...forget about the people. Middle management have tried their hardest to retain what was good...but have been on a losing battle for the last 12 months. It is a different company now, entirely. The cost cutting has gone too far this time.

Not a place you can achieve

      Pros

All of my pro’s link to old Rackspace

      Cons

This isn’t a place to have a sales career. Whilst at initial glance Rackspace seems to have a good transformational strategy, in practice the implementation is extremely poor. Commission plans are heavily focused toward old data centre technology which means you won’t be able to upskill and the new management directly contradict the old Rackspace ethos. It seems very much like they are incentivised for short term revenue gain rather than ensuring Rackspace has a good and stable future. Reputation as a partner within the hyperscalers is falling quickly and customers are dissatisfied.

      Rackspace is gradually outsourcing

      Pros

The people are Rackspace are generally good, knowledgeable and helpful people.

      Cons

Rackspace is outsourcing to India. If you're lucky enough to be hired into a role (the company does not backfill), you will struggle to go anywhere. Promotions seem to be happening a lot in India but not in the UK. This is clearly in a bid to save money but it's at the expense of halting career opportunities for people, at least, in the UK. Rackspace culture is dying, management cannot see more than a month ahead and changes happen too often/ too quickly.

Rackspace is a shell of what it used to be

      Pros

A few tenured Rackers who still believe in fanatical support and are trying to keep some culture alive

      Cons

The "work hard / play hard" culture of Rackspace is no more. Its a shell of the company I was proud to work for. We've experienced perks and benefits being decreased or removed altogether, especially when the salary was lower than industry standard, the benefits made the difference. New SLT is lazer focused on the numbers, they've lost sight of making employees feel valued and rewarded fairly. Redundancies for UK staff to hire for less offshore. Departments are working in silos and the customers are impacted by throwing problems over the fence . Lack of diversity in SLT - hugely dominated by middle aged White Males

      Toxic and soul destroying

      Pros

      There honestly are none now.

      Cons

New leaders have destroyed the culture in EMEA. Rackspace was a great place to work, it was transparent, you were valued and you therefore went above and beyond for the customers and for each other, every day. Now, it’s completely normal not to have a 121 with your manager for months, or ever, in some cases. Everyone is overworked, if you do have an opportunity to raise issues, they fall on death ears - no one cares. Every single non billable role is, or has already, been moved to India. Rackers that have made huge contributions to the business have been bullied out the door, to be replaced with clones of the MD. they look the same, talk the same, think the same. Unsurprisingly, there’s no women. All that matters is margin and revenue. There are no perks left, at all. You’re just viewed as a cost to be eliminated, no matter your contributions, skills or knowledge. Unless you’re located in a low cost country - avoid like the plague, they’ll chew you up and spit you out.

You can do so much better than Rackspace

6 May 2021 - Senior Cloud Engineer in London, England, England
      Recommend
      CEO Approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

There haven't been any for half a decade now

      Cons

Seem like the senior leadership is literally unable to think further than a month ahead. There have been instances when they would announce "the best month in Rackspace history" one month and force all the staff cannibalize their relationships with customers the next because they were falling short of their target EBITDA. There is no investment made into the business or into employees. Almost everyone with actual skills has left the company by now.
