      Not the old Rackspace

      Pros

Good and accepting community and workplace. Mostly work from home since COVID.

      Cons

Most of the people who made up the great company (orignal Rackers) have left or are leaving the company. New joiners don't even get the chance to become a traditional Racker. The not-cheap but tailored for your needs service and Fanatical approach to find the best solution for the customer turned into boxed one size fits all services with the higher prices. Talent and experience is elaving or made redundant, and replaced by mostly L1 workforce in India, who tend to just delay until the US/EU shifts come back or straight bounce.

      A big disappointment

      Pros

Market rate salary Considerable training materials, provided you ever find the time Work/life balance

      Cons

Rackspace is essentially just another bodyshop, they are aspiring to become like Infosys or other similar orgs. Don't believe what they tell you, when you join the PS team, there is no career progression, no team communication, no collaboration, no interesting projects and no lateral collaboration with other departments. You'll essentially be left to rot on a project, at a client, as long as it keeps going and they can keep billing. Hence you will not be gaining any experience or exposure to many technologies. The business does not care what type of work you are doing on an engagement, all that matters is that they can keep billing. Even if you get promoted, you will still be doing the same work, but hopefully with the benefit of a little bit more money. Most likely if you are of ethnic origin, you will not get promoted, so forget about diversity, it's few and far between. It's practically all middle age white man at the top. The company is not what it used to be a few years back, it does not even have any unique selling point, nor does it have any business strategy. Don't waste your time joining, if you are an experience or senior engineer and bear in mind that people are living in droves.

      Uncertain future

Aug 17, 2021 - Customer Success Manager in Hayes, England, England

      Pros

Market comparable salary Can work from home Friendly co workers Ability to learn lots of things outside your role Supportive managers

      Cons

Too much red tape to do anything Very silo'd structure- people not willing to assist outside their silo Very revenue focussed now rather than customer service focussed Massive uncertainty over job security in the face of seemingly endless waves of redundancy Expectation for CSM to pick up lots of other peoples roles, as those teams are disbanded, for example sales and billing.

      Rackspace is no longer 'Rackspace'

      Pros

I am a tenured 'Racker' who grew with the company from when it was just 600 or so employees. The culture, the management, the MD really valued and cherished the company they were building. Over the years there has been many transitions and changes, all bumpy rides but like many companies they overcame the challenges and come out the other side. Pros - They are paying very well - competitive salaries and sign on bonus's for some roles. - Rackspace has a fantastic product portfolio and service offering, we should be very appealing to customers based on what we can offer and support. - Do we have the capability to actually support the customers?? - Answer unknown.

      Cons

I never thought I would be writing on the con's side of a glassdoor review, but having watched Rackspace grow and build amazing things over the past decade, to now watch it come crumbling down I feel an honest review is needed. Since the new leadership came in to play in 2020, the culture has been ripped out of the company, removing the onsite gym, the discount to the external gym, free breakfast all to make cost savings to make the company look more profitable. Credible, tenured Rackers have left without management putting up a fight to keep them because they have people within their IBM network to replace them. Why are these people leaving? If I share to much information here my review will be taken down.. But let's just say how the management team are treated is inhumane. The pressure is extremely intense, you cannot challenge or share any constructive feedback with your leadership team or you will be completely shut down and embarassed in front of your peers. Flexibility- In a world where the majority of the country are working from home, the Rackspace leaders are still pushing for people to be in the office, despite communicating a WFH policy until the end of the year. - Confusing. -Sales comp plan - better than some competitors but not as lucrative as it once was.

I'm angry at what they've done

Aug 30, 2021 - Lead Engineer in Hayes, England, England

      Pros

There's still a few people left that helped make things worthwhile, but they're vanishingly few now. There will probably be more career opportunities to fill the void left behind the waves of people leaving the business.

      Cons

Since the Apollo leveraged buyout (borrowing money to make the purchase and then saddling the company with that debt whilst extracting massive management fees) cost cutting and culture destruction started gradually and has accelerated. Senior managers have all been replaced with old, white men from HP/IBM/etc and have no interest in the culture we built up or the people that helped build it. This is clear from the relentless drive to cut costs, reduce benefits and move as many roles as possible to India. Not everyone can vote with their feet, I feel so sorry for them not knowing whether their job is safe or not.
