      Pros

Rack gives back, free lunches , free breakfast , staff fun budget. Clever people doing clever things

      Cons

No clarity on mission or goals. Wants to be an MSSP, but middle management only know managed hosting. The permafrost of this middle management frustrates technical SME’s and confuses the top tier.

Novelty Culture with Archaic and unregulated leadership

      Pros

Culture is great - That is it - You might believe it is there to mask over the company failings.

      Cons

No mature operational processes. Middle management end up becoming ticket pushers. High turnover of management & leaders. There appears to be a boys/friends club at leadership level. If you do not fit in with those guys you will be on your way out. Bullied even. I know of a lot of high priced pay outs due to the bullying of staff by senior leadership. KEEP AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY. PS - Ensure you speak with a fake posh accent or you will not fit into leadership plans.

      Clouded Strategy and Political Culture

      Pros

Great people to work with and a nice social environment Birthday day off and offices

      Cons

The management is very political and only promotes the people who brown nose. Systems and Tools are atrocious and are just last minute solutions held with "band aids". Forget about promotions and deserved salary increases if you are not in sales. Middle management are the most unskilled people in work and ethics I have ever seen Products and services are a mess and customers are not top priority. The company keeps changing strategy (just to call themselves "number 1") which is having a negative effect on morale.

So much potential, excellent vision, so poorly executed.

      Pros

Some of the most brilliant engineers I've worked with actually work in Rackspace. Some of the employees actually live and breath to provide the best possible support to customers.

      Cons

Middle management is far from effective, and mostly concentrated in their own career path. Frustration, is the word I had used more often during my tenure in Rackspace, and it's not caused by the job, or your peers. It's caused by management.

Great people and culture but crippled by bad middle management.

      Pros

Lots of great technical people to work with and learn from. Great culture and atmosphere. If you are open to constant changes then you will enjoy the ride.

      Cons

Lots of middle management empires which stifles creativity. Most of the managers are just their for themselves and worry about their progression rather than solving the problems for support techs. Bad middle management.

      Cons

Pay is shy of what can be achieved no more than a couple of minutes down the road. Middle management are very frustrating!!

      Decent place to work

Aug 21, 2012 - Windows Systems Administrator III in London, England, England
      Recommend

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Decent pay, especially for San Antonio. OK salaries for other areas. Some people will like the 'culture', shooting each other with rubber darts, etc. Fairly easy to get hired, so can be a good place to get started in IT.

      Cons

They tend to skimp on facilities, which means if you're working for Rackspace UK, you'll be in some zone 6 post-apocalyptic landscape. Technical role progression is pretty limited outside of the US offices. Middle management is generally pretty unimaginative, and there are way too many managers.
