      Great place to work

May 4, 2020 - Network Security Engineer in Hayes, England, England
      Recommend
      CEO Approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

Management has been incredibly supportive and always available. With all that is going on with COVID-19, Rackspace has been considerate to its staff, offered a wellness day off, provided masks for employees and family. Has created the opportunity to be a part of the company in many other ways. Every Racker is encouraged to do courses to develop and learn new skills and share knowledge across the team. The people at Rackspace really make the difference thus encouraging to do a great job.

      Cons

Nothing urgent to report, Moving forward though when Rackspace invests with new acquisitions and takes on new challenges, can we merge systems and databases more seamlessly so we are all working from the same systems.

      Blinded by it's own delusions

Sep 16, 2020 - Windows Engineer in Cardiff, Wales, Wales
      Recommend
      CEO Approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

      - Great people - Good perks, work/life balance

      Cons

Company has expanded via multiple aquisitions rather than natural growth. As a result, not every employee is a 'Racker' in the true sense and therefore creating an us/them boundary. The workloads for people who have been inherited through these acquisitions vary wildly, with expectations being set to support outdated/unsupported environments with the constant repeated mantra of aligning to the Rackspace support model where workloads are seemingly balanced and everyone is happy... Staff 'leveling' system gives little in the way of progression and seems to be an excuse to place more value on one employee over another with arbitrary testing metrics that don't remotely reflect the work you will be assigned. It's sold as one big happy family but it's more like multiple factions vying to protect their own personal interests.

      Great place to work!

Sep 5, 2019 - Solutions Architect in Hayes, England, England
      Recommend
      CEO Approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

Great team! Solution Architecture leadership genuinely care about individuals and developing their careers and providing career development opportunities. Pay and benefits are good. Campus, canteen, parking and facilities are of a high standard, which more than makes up for the location. Free breakfast and ad-hoc free lunches. Racker culture!

      Cons

Quality of leadership varies across the organisation. Some challenges with silos, but most Rackers genuinely want to help each other. No different in these respects to any large organisation.

      Dodgy ethics and fake culture

Sep 21, 2019 - Marketing Manager in Hayes, England, England
      Recommend
      CEO Approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

      * Nice colleagues * Great Halloween celebrations (clutching at straws here...)

      Cons

      * Odd management who will use under-hand tactics to exit you from the business even though you’re not under-performing * If your face no longer fits then you’re out * Racker culture doesn’t always gel with how you’re treated by management; at times it seems forced and over the top * Archaic approach to flexible working * Not that great at handling stress/anxiety; I witnessed a senior leader laughing about someone who was struggling with returning to work after maternity leave * Hayes - there is nothing around so you’re trapped on-site which can be suffocating; it’s also dodgy in the evenings * Parts of management - especially in sales - are like some weird Masonic club with their own little clique

      Sales Manager

Dec 27, 2018 - Sales Manager in Hayes, England, England

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Company culture - fun, engaging and the Racker values are brilliant in helping managers to create dynamism in culture. Benefits - not often mentioned in these reviews but the benefits are fantastic! Earning potential - if you've got a good head on you, the world is your oyster at Rackspace! You have to put in the time and effort, but if you do the potential rewards are amazing. People - a lot of intelligent, clever and talented people are employed at Rackspace which adds to the already vibrant culture. Training - one of the best induction programs I've ever seen. Senior Management - our leaders are visible, approachable and engaging. The EMEA MD is a particular highlight, sitting amongst the teams and he remembers everyone's name and regularly asks how your day is going. EMEA VP of Sales is a strong, experienced leader and encourages and supports his management team well. Recognition - lots of opportunities for Rackers to be recognised and their values and contribution highlighted to the business. Competitive Advantage - I don't feel like we ever lose out against a competitor on anything other than price, where the other company significantly undercuts us. That really helps to inspire confidence in the workforce of our value, but the aggressive nature of the market remains a key challenge. Valuing the Customer - the vast majority of the workforce genuinely have the customer's satisfaction and best interests top of mind. The Hard Rack - fantastic cafe staffed by the most wonderful people! Development - lots of development opportunities for people with progression top of mind.

      Cons

Location - the main UK office is based in Hayes; sometimes for recruitment purposes this is a challenge as good external candidates often prefer a central city location. Future of the Business - clarity of mission a little unclear due to disruption to legacy business model caused by increasingly rapid adoption of the Cloud. Performance Management - part of Rackspace' culture is to support and help the Rackers to do well, but sometimes this slows the process when you genuinely have a bad egg, or someone who is just not right for the business. It can therefore sometimes take too long to resolve these kind of challenges.

      Pros

If your mate works in management your in. Has some great long term Rackers who try their heart out for the company.

      Cons

Cronyism is off the scale in this place. Managers seem to last anything between 3-12 months then crack under the pressure and leave. In 3 years i had 9 managers, very hard to continually change your working style to suit your managers taste. Rackspace is split into two companies, those in sales and the rest of Rackspace. If you work in sales you won't really experience the fun place that you see on LinkedIn

      Pros

Great people, legendary culture, friendly atmosphere, flexible working hours, opportunity to work from home when needed,

      Cons

Since the Appolo acquisition, the growth within the company is limited. Fewer jobs promotion opportunity since acquisition. The Racker that is promoted earns less than someone who is just hird.
