I have been working at Radley Yeldar full-time for less than a year

    Pros

As my first job in an agency at 22, I was given an opportunity to work alongside talented and experienced professionals who were patient whilst helping me learn in the industry. The culture is fab with regular social events and a variety of company perks (frequently topped up bowl of biscuits being one of the best). During the coronavirus outbreak the management team were transparent along the way, notifying staff of all the best and worse case scenarios in plenty of time.

    Cons

Work/Life balance is hard in consultancy, as discussed in culture club it would’ve been nice to have this compensated with an early finish on a Friday when/if work is slow, I believe this was being discussed. Unfortunately due to Covid-19, redundancies were made including my role, but as said in the pro’s there was excellent communication about this and the company has tried to look after employees as much as possible.

I have been working at Radley Yeldar full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Without doubt an exciting place to work Good variety of work Good collaboration on work

    Cons

It operates like a small minded company, no maturity I'm disappointed and embarrassed because their moral compass has fallen off the edge of a cliff Putting people on furlough scheme when they are actually still actively working Reducing salaries and expecting people to work full time and only conceding when getting push back Making staff redundant whilst getting emails about managers on a recruitment drive. Also making redundancies whilst leaving people on the furlough scheme. The furlough scheme was meant to be a job retention scheme but RY using it to pay for redundancies...it feels very wrong. Sending emails to come and use Carl's pool is insensitive when people are suffering hardship (also against govt. guidelines)

    Radley Yeldar Response

    August 7, 2020Talent Acquisition Manager

Thank you for taking the time to share your views. It has been very tough time for so many people at ry and we have tried to protect jobs as best we can. Sadly that has not been possible for all areas of the business which I personally take as a failing. We believe it was right to financially protect people leaving the business as best we could, and we took legal and tax advice to ensure that we are operating within the rules. The furlough scheme has evolved over the last few months, and it’s important ry stay within the rules of the scheme at all times. Furlough rules were new when we originally implemented it, at the time we sought legal advice to ensure we were using it the right way. However, off the back of a letter I received a few weeks ago we started an investigation into any potential breaches on the 25th of June. Everyone that is or was on furlough was contacted in July to review if any mistakes were made. If we find we have broken the rules, we will adjust our claim as government guidelines recommend, and will be sharing our findings with the agency in the near future. I am under no illusions that I am very lucky where I live, and wanted to share our garden and pool (outdoors and separated from the house) for any colleagues and their family ‘bubbles’ who may not have the chance to get out of the house or who might have missed out on vacation during summer. I am sorry if this came across as insensitive; at the time I felt it was the least I could do in the hot weather and still do. I do appreciate that you care and think that ry is an exciting place to work, and you took the time to voice your concerns. I know this is a difficult ask but would be good to talk this though if you feel up to it. I can only promise to listen as best I can and try and share background details that might help explain why we did what we did, to give you some closure and peace of mind. Please reach out to me or someone you trust on the board if you can, otherwise best of luck and stay safe. Thanks Carl x

I have been working at Radley Yeldar full-time

    Pros

Friendly place to work in. Everyone is very nice and chatty, always egar to help and answer any questions you may have. Always willing to include others in other activities.

    Cons

time management and communications of some project managers need to be addressed. Also, even though there's meant to be a system and process in place, it gets changed depending on which project manager you're working with. As each manager has their own way of working so you really have to adapt and tread lightly.

Thanks for sharing your views. As you hopefully know, my personal dream is to make RY the best agency in the world to work for where the best work gets done. Nice to hear you met some great people in your time here. Politics, they are not the best way to get things done. If you’d like to share more about your experience, I’d love to talk. Good luck with the new job. Carl x

I have been working at Radley Yeldar full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

    1. The client list in incredible - some of the world's biggest organisations 2. The briefs are fantastic - a wide range of tricky problems that pretty much all really matter, one way or another 3. The culture is amazing - we try our best to look after each other and we have oodles of fun. And we're in Shoreditch. Yes. 4. We're not a machine - we flex in a variety of ways so you'll find yourself working with different combinations of colleagues from the off. 5. The people who make it here do so because a) they're genuine experts and b) they care. 6. We're a family business. And that matters. Independent of greedy shareholders and independent in our thinking. 7. We know what we're trying to achieve. Our vision 'To help create a world that believes in business' drives us.

    Cons

    1. We're not a machine. There is a cultural resistance to process which can make life tough. 2. We can have a tendency to overburden the really good people 3. Management styles differ but there is a nervous resistance to telling people what to do. This effects our efficiencies.

Thank you for all the years you’ve worked here. You’ve picked up on many of the things we’re really proud about and I hope, are a big reason for your time at RY. We’ve being doing a lot of work around processes to better deliver our projects on time and on budget while having fun along the way! We will keep on working at it. Thanks again. Carl x

Thanks for taking the time to share your views. I am interested to understand more around long serving people. In an industry where turnover is high we like to recognise and celebrate people’s long service, but it’s important that our new and long standing people connect well. Staying Connected is after all one of our values. If you’re happy to share more please email talentteam@ry.com as we are always keen to learn. Thanks Carl x

I have been working at Radley Yeldar full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Lovely community feel and supportive team - great to work for a family-run business rather than a faceless conglomerate.

    Cons

Work load can be inconsistent - this is due to reporting season, a nature of the industry.

Thanks for taking the time to share your views, as you know we are passionate about our independence. It’s nice to hear that that helps us stand out. The reporting season is a brilliant part of our business but does ask a lot of our colleges at time. Everyone does whatever it takes to deliver for our clients, not sure how they do some times. Glad that you are enjoying your time here so far. Carl x

Thanks for taking the time to share how you feel. We are an agency going through change - we’ve been around for 30 years and are setting ourselves up to thrive over the next 30 years! We use our values to help us on that journey. You said you like the “straight talking teams” – as you probably know one of our four values is “Staying Connected”. In our own words this means “seeking honest and transparent conversations “, I’m really pleased to hear you are feeling that value truly alive in the business. Thanks for sharing positive news. Enjoy your time at RY. Carl x

Growing for sure brings its challenges. Some days feels like we have cracked the art of making magic with our culture, only to be brought back down to earth! Running an agency is a bit like life - we know we have to change as we grow up, but it can be tough working out which bits to keep and which bits we've outgrown. It's good to hear you enjoyed your time here. And thanks for taking the time to share your views. Carl x
