Quite a rollecoaster

Pros

Nice and lax environment; people dress nicely but without going into extreme ( no 3 piece suit, no pajamas). Overall it give you a feeling of a solid company; the offices are in a nice area and people overall are really nice. Good salary, benefits and amenities close by. People have often a good attitude; some really talented people, among the workforce, altough they are chained down by the environment that does not cope well with changes

Cons

No offices; it is a pure cube-farm environment, which has the downside of limited privacy and sound/food odor travel fast and without mercy. Management sometimes has troubles to communicate objectives; this trickle down to your manager (which in some case is more clueless than you), making you look really without any sort of meaningful impact. Most of the management pretend to be open and mor modern (Apple or Google style), but in reality they will simply ignore or eliminate whoever could possibly mine their position. Frequently people are let go; usually happens to people that are not willing to work above and beyond their contractual time. A lots of confusion; things get done more than once, and then someone figure out that they have to change again. Mostly, instead of spending time in fixing something; a new product or procedure is implemented, with the result that the issues are mostly delayed to the next breakage.

Office in Rotterdam: Beware!

Pros

The Rambus' office in Rotterdam is former BellID, purchased by Rambus in 2016. The company does pay a market-average salary, has several successful projects. Rambus/BellID provides relevant and valuable experience in the electronic payments market.

Cons

The CTO is a screamer. An he is not the only one in the company. This is a common trait for many middle managers in Rambus@Rotterdam (and even for senior engineers!) This is a hectic place. Everybody is complaining about everybody else. Toxic. The projects are usually messy, especially the old ones with long history. Lack of organizational and technical expertise. After working closely with some of your colleagues you might became a screamer yourself. Career options are quite limited. Rambus@Rotterdam is not promoting its employees, hiring outsiders for the vacant roles instead.

Worst experience of my career

Pros

There are some good people and the new building was nice. CEO seemed to know what the problems were.

Cons

A long history of shady financial and legal practices has handcuffed the company. Being on 'legal hold' impacts EVERY decision. Very strong old boy network at the VP and above level. Most are very poor managers that would never have the same title at any other company so they aren't going anywhere. Rather than do performance management on these poor leaders they spend money on "executive coaches and advisors" but a tiger doesn't change it's stripes.
