I worked at Redfin full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great technology, app, website, internal client management system with many aids to held expedite communication with clients and streamline work processes. Constant stream of leads with highly qualified clients, steady income, benefits, reimbursements, nice co-workers, many great managers, generous with annual convention for agents with amazing entertainment, food, etc. Good amount of experience and immediate management support for assistance. CEO truly is a visionary, funny, and seems genuine.

    Cons

Triple the normal work load for non commensurate pay. Told to think of this as "any other job" to justify ok pay for highly stressful work. Laid off 40% of all employees after told initially would be given a guaranteed salary, while sheltering at home, When deemed essential, told we needed to get back to work and needed to meet with clients in person without offering PPE and told to figure it out. Other option was furlough with minimal pay and no guarantee would come back without ability to switch license. Agents that continued to meet with clients at person did so in fear of being "laid off". Management wanted you to "open up" your schedule to "available" all day , every day for last minute appointments starting from 8am to 8pm. Average closing rate was 10% for company so spent lots of time working with sometimes very demanding and difficult clients that were not actually going to buy and you had to work with everyone you were assigned to. Pretty much on call all the time and driving constantly. Must be on emails and phone constantly because of very high amount of communications and requests sent with immediate response required. Lots of rules and constantly told what you're doing wrong. Take clients word over agents. Constantly told "Redfin is not for everyone" and top management in San Diego dictated a highly stressful, demanding, workaholic environment. Agents experienced bullying and overly angry and aggressive style by a particular manager and many agents had to switch team leaders with no accountability or recourse for that manager. Last annual survey completed showed agents felt overworked, underpaid, undervalued with no work life balance. New committees were formed to address these issues and nothing was done. Still same environment. When Redfin did big layoff, in April, top agents were furloughed or laid off and existing escrows/clients were given away to remaining agents with very little or no pay to departing agents.

I worked at Redfin full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great benefits overall, work life balance isn't bad once you reach a manager level. Salaries are competitive at the manager level. Agents are given freedom to work without supervision as long as they are closing deals and get overall good reviews.

    Cons

Local managers don't own their job itself or decisions on their direct reports anymore. Upper management has shifted to micromanaging everything that happens in the field everyday. This approach has really strayed from what I considered to be the core values when I started of supporting people at all levels and trusting your people to do the right thing and do their job effectively. Agent base salaries and bonus keep going down over the years because there are so many mouths to feed at the company.

I worked at Redfin full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Great benefits and good salaries for management

    Cons

Zero work/life balance as a manager or agent. Support positions are better. Company is morphing from a quirky startup with a soul to just another public company making cut-throat decisions to satiate Wall Street.

I have been working at Redfin full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

You get many clients and lots of experience. There is a fun trip once a year. The agents are awesome.

    Cons

They run you into the ground. The average agent does 34 deals a year and the managers are constantly on your case to do more. There is NO work life balance. You work 12 hours a day, EVERY day. After all of that your salary is around 25k and your bonuses get taxed around 40 %. So you walk home with nothing left in your pocket. Because you have so many clients it is a constant state of emergency all of the time. Two of my co workers were hospitalized from the stress of it all.

I worked at Redfin full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Training, agent preparedness, technology driven, leads-a-plenty, dynamic culture, benefits. Redfin offers some of the best agent training resources and crowd sourcing development in the industry. It's state of the art platform is impressive and they constantly improve based on feedback from clients and the agents who use it. Leads are assigned daily and there is no shortage of busy-ness.

    Cons

Poor work-life balance, lowest pay in the industry, managers are inexperienced at managing people, high focus on volume and performance metrics and short sighted on quality. 60-80 hours per week is the average agent schedule between office time, showing appointments, open houses and managing the pipeline of constantly flowing clients. Its hard to balance quality of life and the team managers offer little support. Managers lack the skill of people managing and focus more on beating metric performance. Turn over is high as result.

I worked at Redfin full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    leads are provided for you

    Cons

Absolutely no work life balance. Listing agents are the only ones who make presidents club yet they lose money. Make sense? False sense of security. Work you to the bone and still cryotism and nepotism prevail.

I have been working at Redfin full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

The people are great. It's nice being on a collaborative team. The benefits are excellent.

    Cons

Absolutely no work life balance when you're an agent. Redfin offers generous time off but it's impossible to take time off without drastically reducing your pay. Go on vacation and lose your pipeline and any existing client who may be writing offers. The guaranteed salary is laughable - it won't even pay basic rent. Pay is determined by client rankings but agents aren't allowed to let clients know that anything under a 9/10 effects agent pay and promotion abilities. All clients get surveyed - even the ones that are unrealistic - making it nearly impossible to be firm with a difficult client for fear of survey retribution. It creates lots of unnecessary work. For years Redfin has acknowledged there's a work life balance issue but instead of working on the root of the issue - low base pay and survey stress - they keep throwing money at top producers, especially in the form of stock which needs to vest. This is essentially just a carrot being dangled in front of high performing agents to get them to stay somewhere with deep set issues.
