Pros

Work/life balance is important to the business, and at no point have I felt I need to work more hours than contracted to do my job. Ambitious, but realistic leadership gives us lofty goals but understands we can't bend the laws of time and therefore has manageable expectations. Friendly bunch of coworkers and everyone helps each other out willingly.

Cons

Cross-timezone working is always a slight impediment.

Pros

Being remote is the only plus but so is everywhere else these days.

Cons

- CEO is condescending. He does not value you or your work. - He gets employees to leave 5 star reviews on here. Look at the current ones, Jan 11th was a good day! Also November too! I guess he didn't think before telling everyone to go and leave reviews on the same day. - The pay is quite low. - The company isn't going anywhere. It's still not profitable and it's been quite a while now. - Long hours without as much as a "Thank you!" - Your "pulse check" survey results aren't real. The company is too small to be completely honest on the survey and the CEO is a bit hot-headed and condescending so I know the others answered falsely worried they would get fired as it is quite easy to see who answered, even though he says it's anonymous.

Response from CEO: - Employees are free and encouraged to write what they want. There is no pressure whatsoever. They write that themselves and I don't know who is who on those reviews. - Unless you have access to our pay, which you don't since no one who did so far left the company, I am not sure how you can say that the pay is low. In fact, we continuously get praised for our packages. - On profitability: this comment reflects a lack of understanding of the startup world. While profitability is important, it is one of many metrics. Most startups are not profitable, which is exactly why they raise VC money. Do you not use Uber because they are not profitable? - I am sorry that you did not appreciate our interactions. I value direct feedback both good and bad, and it is true I will tackle blatant underperformance. Some people appreciate feedback much more when it is positive, but here your overall tone and fact-free attacks point to you holding some grudge, so I am going to assume this might have been the core issue.

Management response here: Relay is one of a few software companies that really pays attention to work-life balance and have taken concrete steps to ensure our employees have time to resource themselves. Unlimited vacations and time-off, work-from-anywhere and at your preferred hours, frequent discussion and action to further improve in that regard, and we ask almost every Friday whether anyone feels compelled to complete weekend work, so we can find alternative solutions. We will encourage our employees to provide their reviews so job applicants have a wider range of perspectives than this single review.
