I worked at Rue Gilt Groupe full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Not many while working there. The occasional pizza was purchased for staff. Work life balance was awful, supervisors were operated a clique mentality, advancement was reserved for staff in the clique & there was spates of bullying from management in my time there, all of the above causing my great anxiety leading to me having to quit the job after 2.5 years.

    Cons

The company has since shut it's Irish operations & restricted us from spending the account credits we were taxed on. They now refuse to either accommodate spending of the credits worth $900 or refund the taxed amount.

    Advice to Management

Little people exist as well. This company walks over the lower levels of staff. Remember who it is that speaks with your customers on a daily basis.

I worked at Rue Gilt Groupe full-time

    Pros

    - Great annual leave. 25 days off for full time (half for part time) which include two personal days which you can take without notice called Me Days. - Good experience in terms of customer service. Best time to be employed is Christmas. It's busy so you're not bored and the atmosphere is pleasant - Health insurance with Laya

    Cons

    - Little chance to progress. Anyone "higher" than customer service has nowhere to go, so customer service have nowhere to go. Creates a very stagnant work environment. Other areas like fraud, sales and audits might have seasonal work for business needs but then you're plopped back to CS. You could wait for an opening but why would you with competition like Uber, or WP Engine? Entry level management usually has... openings because people burnout from the role quickly and leave. You're given the jobs upper management don't want to do, like answer the majority of agents' questions, take most of the escalated calls, or bug them for overtime. On top of reporting and other duties. For not much incentive (money and value) - Don't feel valued. Some may look at the role as 'JUST' customer service but it's still a tough job and doing small things to show value for your day to day contributions would be nice. - Toxic atmosphere. There are LOVELY and genuine people in there, but sadly there are very problematic and toxic people which isn't exclusive to Gilt, but this place is more imbalanced than most (chemically and numerically). They're too comfortable in the job being able to act how they like with no recourse. If they acted how they do in any other company, they'd be long gone and they know it. Very little done to challenge or keep them in line.. Seen management target others for (imo) less serious issues, while bullying (and worse) has never gotten more than a slap on the wrist. HR are nowhere to be seen. - Canteen is so-so. The grey chairs are filthy and black with CAKED IN food and dirt stains. The toaster is missing knobs, isn't industrial and is more for a 1 person studio flat than a 100+ employee workplace. The coffee machine can only be refilled by one person who does a great job, but he doesn't work nights or weekends so if it needs to be refilled, then too bad for you. - No holiday parties. As in no Christmas party, or any party. - Bad congested traffic from UL and surrounding areas like J&J, 3 and Cook around 4,5,6. - Very removed from corporate/parent company. Made to feel like the black sheep/runt of the family that are last to know everything and can't ask for anything in return. Major 'BE GRATEFUL YOU HAVE A JOB!!!!' vibe.

    Advice to Management

    - You have to be more creative in fostering better culture and unity between the office and different departments - cause you're letting people who made the office shine brighter dim and/or leave altogether. Just going to be stuck with negative Nancy's who only want the place to close anyway, so they can get redundancy. Staff motivation is your ROI to show appreciation and reward them, which is invaluable. Ditch the... "Trocaire boxes for a night out mentality" - nobody wants to work somewhere like that. - You can go up to 3 supervisors asking one question at different times and they would most likely all say different things. Policy should be more black and white. A lack of clear direction can make it confusing and lead to dips in quality for agents. - Be leaders. Managers do things right. Leaders do the right thing.

I have been working at Rue Gilt Groupe part-time

    Pros

Friendly colleagues. Free sodas and fruit.

    Cons

All the supes care about is hiding as far away as possible and their phones while stressed specialists have to do their work. One supe told me she doesn't take escalations and to get rid of the member on my own. Weekends are the worst. No one wants to do them so there is never enough staff. You are constantly pushed calls and not allowed to ask questions. HR team is the most unhelpful I've ever come across.... You can't meet them and they don't respond to emails.

I worked at Rue Gilt Groupe part-time for less than a year

    Pros

I worked the night shift so got a 33% bonus which made my wage good for cust. service in Limerick. Staff and management were great--fair and willing to listen to staff opinions.

    Cons

Difficult to get to/from without a car for the night shift. I never really seen an avenue that staff could progress within the company beyond concierge/TL.

    Advice to Management

encourage internal advancement and incentivise targets better.

I have been working at Rue Gilt Groupe full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Not very many pro's unfortunately, they give free cans of coke but they now monitor this because they are so money conscious. Money is not something that is considered important to management of Gilt Limerick, unless you are there a long time and on an old contract that afforded you the luxury of a decent wage.

    Cons

The office politics, if you are not in the correct Clique (similar to that of high school) then you will not be allowed to progress up the career ladder. I have heard stories of staff being accused of things that they didn't do. The HR team is the most unprofessional I have ever come across, with a very limited grasp of Irish employment law. They were fined for withholding ex staff members p45's, also heard a lot... of favoritism with regard to promotions. A direct quote that was overheard was "We are right beside UL (an Irish university) we can get highly qualified people and pay them minimum wage" be warned potential or current employees, this place should not be your end game with regard to your career. Night shift workers are not paid the 20% allowance entitled to them by Irish law but the staff are too scared to come forward and say something as management needlessly fire people ad-hoc, based on nothing more than how they perceive the employee and not on the employee's performance, e.g. you could have 2 people performing the exact same and one might be fired because a manager simply doesn't like them. Being timed when you use the toilet is another strange behaviour of management / wannabe management who will set their manager freinds on you.

    Advice to Management

Hire a properly trained HR team that has experience with HR in Ireland, be nicer to your employees as these are the face of your company and product, and if you have no budget for better wages, introduce fun into the workplace, my experience of this place is a very politically correct workplace where people are treading on eggshells in fear of how they will be perceived and inevitably treated if they show their true... personality. There is a distinct lack of empowering the employee to help them progress, and a lot of people that think they are managers when in fact they are not, but because of who they are friends with you must be made feel a lesser employee even though they are in the same role as you.

I worked at Rue Gilt Groupe part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Great company culture, catered lunch sometimes. Awesome employee discount. Mostly a bunch of really nice people working in Operations.

    Cons

So many part-time employees that never get hired full time because the company does not want to offer benefits.

    Advice to Management

Offer more FT opportunities to customer service reps instead of hiring so many in rounds. Gilt has a great culture and people are loyal to it, but sometimes CS reps get ignored entirely.

Customer Support in New York, NY

I have been working at Rue Gilt Groupe

    Pros

decent pay, relaxed dress code, nice free treats in employee kitchen.

    Cons

Having to field Numerous complaints about the goods that Gilt provided and not being able to offer resolutions. Just google their customer reviews.

    Advice to Management

Focus more on quality customer service and not just the quantity of the calls answered.
