I have been working at Russell Investments full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

The company comes from a rich history of innovation, strong values, community engagement, and empowering its employees.

    Cons

Unfortunately, all of the pros have seemed to have vanished. Since the various changes in corporate ownership, the firm has lost its way and seems to be holding on to legacy relationships and ways of thinking, partially due to high turnover among associates but low turnover among senior management. The firm acts like a rudderless ship with no cohesive strategy and heavily reliant on consultants. Career progression has been put on the backburner as costs are continuously cut and more workload is put on fewer headcount. The ownership structure has been split into the "haves" and the "have nots" with only a portion of associates deemed deserving of the opportunity to buy into the company. Any messaging about corporate changes fall on deaf ears as it is spun by equity owners to benefit themselves. Morale has taken a hit over the past 5 years with many quality investment professionals voluntarily leaving the firm for greener pastures. Particularly in EMEA, leadership has been fairly non-existent with an absent regional CEO and incomprehensible strategy.

I worked at Russell Investments full-time

    Pros

Decent pay/benefits, gaps in resource provide opportunities to step up and learn if you are willing to accept it may go unrecognised for a long period of time

    Cons

Morale is low, redundancy rounds are followed by waves of departures, the general vibe is people afraid of losing their jobs which is not an environment conducive to coaching and supporting the younger generation. The best managers have moved on.
