I worked at SABMiller full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Some of the most impressive people I have ever worked with: smart, entrepreneurial, driven. These qualities took a small time local south African brewer to the world's second largest over a short period of time. Beer is a social product and the culture brought that to life by making work fun.

    Cons

Shifting from fully autonomous country management to a globally scaled organization was not without it's frustrations for anyone working in a central role.

    Advice to Management

Be proud of what has been achieved but recognize that the future needs different qualities for leaders to be successful.

I worked at SABMiller full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Collaborative colleagues
    Not too bureaucratic
    Open to change
    Lovely people
    Stimulating and smart

    Cons

    Relentless pressure
Sometimes too much discussion, not enough action
Can be too consensus-driven - not always easy to align strong personalities

    Advice to Management

It was an amazing success story and it's such a shame it got taken over

    I worked at SABMiller full-time

    Pros

A proud heritage. Great people and environment to work with in general, and great beers from the world to enjoy after a hard day's work!

    Cons

Could have been more agile at getting things done if the business was less de-centralised. That said, the "can-do" attitude and positive intent in general was strong.

    I worked at SABMiller full-time

    Pros

    The people, the 'SABMiller family'
    Great heritage and brilliant brands
Sustainability was part of the business strategy

    Cons

Could be hierarchical which meant getting approvals was slow
Very cautious, although it meant we knew everything we did was 100% right

    Advice to Management

Be more open minded. But thanks for the leadership and visibility in the last year.

I worked at SABMiller (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Can do, Positive, Brilliant opportunities, Strong coaching and mentoring programme, International expat programme a real plus and extremely well managed.

    Cons

None that come to mind. Loved it and will miss it very much. A visionary team that took a brewery in a backwater to a global powerhouse

    Advice to Management

Not applicable, as the company no longer exists, so redundant question which I now need to complete to get to the next step

    Pros

Working with like minded passionate people.
    Beer allowance
    Great employee events

    Cons

Takeover from ABI leading to a completely different culture.

    Advice to Management

    Keep listening to employees

I worked at SABMiller full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great products, winning mindset, most of the people are fun to work with

    Cons

Slow moving and decision making, not best pay, lots of politics and backstabbing in the headquarters

    Advice to Management

No more need, management gone once the company was acquired by AB InBev

  11. "Great company to work for - inclusive and generous"

Former Employee - Anonymous Employee in Woking, England

I worked at SABMiller (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Benefits are fantastic; people are intelligent and work hard; if you like beer you're quids in!

    Cons

If you don't like beer then tough! There is a non-responsive culture which makes everything time-consuming.

    Advice to Management

A bit late now as it's ABI who manages the business. My experience of the management was mixed - it's down to personalities.
