I have been working at SAS Institute full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Excellent work culture, everybody is super friendly, approachable and really helpful.
I am a recent starter and have been put on a personal development plan where I hope to gain numerous SAS certifications and learn all about the tools I need to best fulfil the role.
The structure of my development plan is very clear and I have lots of weekly meetings with my manager to assess my performance and make sure that I'm on track.
Huge range of opportunities and different sectors of analysis that I can choose to go into once I am up and running.
Social life is very good. We have weekly socials whereby we go for a drink and food and I also participate in the SAS football team!
Excellent recent intake of graduates. Developing up and coming young talents to be the future of the company. One such method is by putting us onto the OPEN programme where we will gain skills in leadership and management.
Wealth of experience in the team
Amazing offices. Recent additions include pool tables, air hockey tables and a small golf course.

All in all an amazing place to work with great project opportunities always on the horizon and personal development always at the forefront of their thinking.

    Cons

Yet to encounter any issues or problems with SAS

    Pros

It's a steady, slowly growing company. Lots of fabulous people. Great perks and benefits. Lovely working environment.

I have been working at SAS Institute full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great culture, ability to effect a change across all levels of the business, employees input hugely important to senior management, great rewards and salary packages and the facilities are second to none. Did I say one of the best companies to work for in the World!

    Cons

Being in one of the hottest markets where people are constantly being poached and approached, hard to keep the view of the SAS culture under this pressure

    Advice to Management

Staff are the key resource that you have, forget the great Analytical Software

I worked at SAS Institute full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

There are some really smart people at SAS. Nice office, flexible working. There is some focus on enablement and technical training. You will get some exposure to the analytics industry (don’t get mixed up with doing analytics) if you’re in sales or pre-sales.

    Cons

Overall the organisation has no idea how to face the competition from open source and other vendors. SAS is fairly perceived as overpriced and difficult to deal with. Full of lifers who are unemployable outside SAS and sales folks who will only stay a few years, cash their commission and leave for better options. User base is mainly 45+, which makes selling to new accounts virtually impossible, new grads also prefer open source

    Advice to Management

Study the history of Kodak unless you want to miss the boat and become completely irrelevant

I have been working at SAS Institute full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

A great employee philosophy with a full understanding that in a company like this, if the employee's are leaving, the core value of the company is leaving. All colleagues are highly competent and willing to support each other.

    Cons

Working in a local office outside of U.S. it is obvious that the expansion over the 40 years has happened in various tempi and with different degrees of influence from the head office. There are some alignment issues and legacy in some of the local offices.

    Advice to Management

From an employee's perspective, you are doing really good!

I have been working at SAS Institute full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    Good work/life balance
    Some decent management that cares
Exposure to new technology and industries
    Good healthcare

    Cons

    Insider politics
A lot of promotions are given to Cary NC insiders on the ‘fast track’ ... this is BAD for moral.
Lack of diversity in upper management especially in the first 3 levels which trickles down to promotions.
Tepid growth, belt tightening, re-orgs, layoffs
Lower pay and PTO compared to other organizations.

    Advice to Management

Acknowledge we are at the crossroads.
This is prime time for analytics, but are we positioned to capitalize on the biggest growth opprtunity in a generation??
We have great people that can solve any problem, but change is concentrated in a few floors in Cary, and they seem not open to suggestions.
Focus on solving customer problems with the most efficient solutions.
Viya is late to the game , we have lots of catching up to do.
Promote diversity to be genuinely more inclusive than the Cary NC country club rather than just soundbites.
Continue the commitment to train employees to unlock creativity.

I worked at SAS Institute part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good balance between work and academic responsibilities

    Cons

Everything depends on business unit you will land and clients you will work for.
