I have been working at SAS Institute full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

If you like slow working environment and continue to do same work over years then this company is for you. But, after you spend 3-4 years you will become unemployable. Benefits and facilities are standard and nothing special - all other company provide these benefits. If you are planning a baby - this is the place.

    Cons

No opportunities for talented people. The company is highly dependent on Dr. Goodnight- as long as he is around, everything is good.

    Advice to Management

Start trusting the employees; create opportunities.

I worked at SAS Institute full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    1. Great work culture.
    2. Good policies.
    3. Work on latest technologies.

    Cons

    1. Incompetent local management - Local management (few directors and managers) are working here for a long long time and are not able to understand/follow/adapt to the current market. Their laid back and ball passing attitude isn't doing good to the company. Their main motive is to remain in this company till retirement.

    2. Local management feels insecure from talented/smart employees. They somehow try to suppress in one way or the other, ultimately leading to high attrition. Being an analytics leader, HR should apply some analytics to find out how many talented professionals have left the company in 2016/17 and because of which reasons.

    3. Good communication skills are at least expected from the flag-bearers of the company. See, if you could impart some extensive communication training to the local higher management.

    4. Promotions are "ALSO" handed over to those who have been working in this company for years (on the same role). It leads to frustration among those who actually work hard towards the betterment of the product/company.

    Advice to Management

    1. Are you happy with the performance of this centre? Time for a re-organisation, I guess!!

    2. Do some compensation analysis of Indian IT industry especially Product/R&D organisations and see where you stand. Improve the compensation!

    3. 80% of the work is being done by only 20% of your workforce. You could easily find 30% employees who are either redundant or technically outdated.

    4. Do a special review of all those employees who have spent more than 8 years in this organisation. Check if they are an asset or a liability, if you know what I mean.

    5. Stop treating Pune centre as a third world nation. Do a bench-marking of policies and start giving the same benefits globally.

In short, the Cary centre is amazing but there is so much to improve in the Pune centre. I don't want to see this company become a Nokia of Analytics market.

    I loved SAS!
