I worked at SCC full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Easy jobs Unqualified management are easy to manipulate The collective hatred for the management brings the staff together

    Cons

Poor pension. Poor pay. SCC is the most unprofessional company I have ever heard of, never mind worked for SCC is run from the top, management are just there to carry out orders and take the blame when it inevitably all goes wrong. Customers and staff are treated with contempt. No pay rises, if you get an appraisal it’s always overdue and they start by telling you there is no money available for a pay rise. No incentive to excel, just do what you need to do and stop. Mind numbingly boring. Poor office conditions, broken furniture, dirty break rooms, awful toilets. Seriously depressing working environment and jobs. No chance of promotion or progression, some people have been doing the same job for 20 years+. 23 days annual leave. Only 8 days paid sickness. No valid training, they are scared of training staff properly because they know you will leave when qualified, I did a few days training and passed an exam they more or less forced me to cheat. Poor communication between management and staff and between departments, different teams are working against each other. Blame culture, management point out any small mistake you make, but never praise your positive achievements. Bullying management are so scared of their superiors they bully staff to produce the required figures. No bonus. Massive staff turnover, don’t bother making any friends, if they have any sense they will leave asap

I have been working at SCC full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Easy to get a job at scc, they are desperate Paid on time

    Cons

No proper training. scc doesn't care about its staff at all treated like dirt bonuses given to some departments amount to an average wage only if you are a top performer every month of the year 8 days sick pay then straight to ssp (and straight to hr to explain why you had time off) 23 days holiday, 25 only after 5 years service no pay rises appraisals are a waste of time, just copy and paste last years, no proper targets

I have been working at SCC full-time

    Pros

I like the fact that you are paid money. This is an ideal step on the bottom rung of the career ladder. This is a great place to leave. I hope one day I can.

    Cons

If you like a non-stressful environment, being used, talked down to, have no pay rise, have no career progression, have no training, then this is the place for you.

    Pros

Always paid on time and the people on the ground doing the work are excellent, but severely undervalued. Coffee in the canteen was cheap

    Cons

In 2 words, the management. In DCS the most unapproachable bunch of people you ever had the misfortune to meet, unless you were in the clique. There is no respect for their staff. No pay rises in the 3 years I was there. Avoid at all costs

"False threats and false promises - Negative energy!"

    I worked at SCC full-time

    Pros

There are some nice and friendly people in work with and I can call some of them close friends.

    Cons

Where do I begin.... The management have no idea what's going on. They have no technical skills and can barely type up an email without spelling mistakes or incorrect grammar. The communication between manager(s) and employee is non existence as the managers just talk down to the staff and pass the blame onto them even when the fault is nothing to do with them. Managers don't even know their apprentices by name and not being able to pronounce the names correctly. Managers give out personal information to other staff while questioning if a member of staff is lying or making up stories just to get that extra sick or compassionate day. Example - managers questioned whether a member of staff was lying about a death in his or her family. Managers are also known posting false figures and making them up just to have a go at members of staff. That is why staff are always keeping track and record of their figures just to watch their own back. Double standards on lateness is there, managers are, if not, always late to work while bringing in McDonald's breakfast meal to eat but then to have a go and give verbal warning out to staff who are less than 60 seconds late while the managers are half a hour or a good day 10 minutes late. The Apprenticeship scheme is beyond a joke! The apprentice's are just used as cheap labour. They are sold false promises of working on different departments and stock but are given jobs no one wants do such as cleaned wires and keypads. They receive minimum training and left to fend for themselves and expand their skills and experience in their own time or shadowing a mentor. They do this through out the apprenticeship without any development. The managers usually moan at apprentice's about there output however they claim they "do not monitor or track apprentice's output or figures. 95% of the staff are nice, friendly and easy to get along with. However there are some members of staff who are back stabbing snitches. Those people are people who act like your friend to only snitch on you to management just people are talking too loud or viewing the web when themselves are streaming music off YouTube or reading BBC news. These people also pass the blame onto other people when they messed up but when confronted say they "haven't done one of those before." Lies! The snitches are so far up the management that they think they are untouchable but little do they know that they will in the same position on the same wage doing the same work for the rest of their working careers (lifer). The pay is unexplainably minimum wage. No pay rises are given because of "Brexit" but the company brags about the enormous profits the company is making. But when pay rises are bought up in appraisals they are quickly swept shut down. Overtime is a joke as overtime is just single time when doing it but else where overtime is time and a half or double time. Progression is non existence as internal applications will be block by managers when you're on holiday and is not involved that the application has been black. No training is given within the workshop or field support. The working conditions are awful! Air conditioners that don't work but when "repaired" only blows out cold air, we are just told to put fleeces on and put up with it. Staff computers and equipment are out dated and not with the times (Test rigs with Windows 95 and XP installed). Staff have to be scanned out by security when leaving the building but managers are not. Personal mobile phones have to be left with security, at home or in the car due to information with leak or taken out. However managers are allowed to bring in their personal mobile phones but told it will "not to be used for person usage." But I have on a number of times caught managers using their mobile phones during working hours using it for personal use such as ringing up Amazon about an recent order or speaking to someone about which cat litter to buy.

    I worked at SCC

    Pros

    Always got paid on time

    Cons

No training given in workshop or in field. You can be sent out to fix anything regardless of your skill level. Management are non technical and have no idea how about what your job involves. Apprentices are used as cheap labour, they are given jobs no one wants do do. they are given minimum training and left to get on with it. They do this for a year without any development SCC employs anyone they can get, it is pot luck if they are any good. The interviews dont find out whos good or not New younger engineers that are eager to progress onto more complex jobs are left to do boring mindless jobs. They are happy to let someone clean keypads day in and day out There is basically no pay rises in all the years I was there. If you take on more responsibility you might receive a pittance for your trouble. If you don't apply for another job internal or external you will stay in that job until you retire. Management are about as approachable as the surface of the sun Staff have to be scanned by security on the way out of work, managers are above suspicion and are allowed to bring their personal mobile phones in even tho normal staff arnt Customers equipment is smashed and damaged constantly. Also it can be mislabeled as a stock machine and lost Management have no real power, they dont have the authority to do much at all. They act more as a barrier between staff and the top management No pay rises even tho the company newsletter talks about over enormous profits. everyone has about 10 jobs to do (engineer\admin\purchasing\training\techsupport\deliveryman\fieldengineer\binman) The performance reviews are an absolute joke, you are given targets that dont help you improve like "fix more things a day" and if you achieve this you get nothing. There are no bonuses at all for engineers performance. Wages and pay rises are the worst in the industry, they arnt listed on job sites and not discussed in appraisals like a banned subject some people have worked there over 20 years and they do pointless jobs like cleaning cables. this shows as good output because of the quantity. On the flipside you can be stuck on one job all day that took a lot of skill to repair and you get moaned at Customers are sold poor secondhand parts that are sometimes worse than the old part you have taken off overtime is single time in the week All the computers are outdated get asked to work in the field, not told how to log my jobs or anything else. Just given a van key and a list of addresses people not allowed to progress to internal vacancies. applications blocked by managers The only thing SCC is good for is a foot in the door of the IT industry then most decent people move on. There is really only working at SCC, young people who haven't worked in IT before or old people who have just coasted through doing mindless tasks day in day out. The real technical skill is held together by a few talented individuals scattered around the company that hold the whole company together. but most of them are job searching to go elsewhere and its now getting to breaking point where the skill level has just gone.
