I have been working at SCC full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Good and fun people to work with. Challenging, not boring day-to-day work. Given independence at work and being involved at decision making within my project. Hard work and good skills are being recognised and appreciated. Annual review and pay rise. Good work-life balance. I've never had to put in extra hours.

    Cons

The annual pay rise could be bigger. SCC wants employees to work 2 days from the office while I feel I could do everything from home. Very little healthcare benefits. 1 quaterly bonus in the last 12 months (Covid-19 could be partially blamed for it).

I worked at SCC full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Some nice colleagues Paid on time

    Cons

Childish management just put in place to baby sit employees, they seem to think if you haven't got a manager breathing down your neck all the time, you will mess around and not do your work. Good companies have far better HR and interview techniques to ensure that they employ only good staff and not immature children with no skills, sadly this is not the case at SCC, the HR department are not very good at interviewing prospective staff, your interviewer will have no technical knowledge, let's face it most of the staff have no technical knowledge, I truly believe ANYONE could get a job at SCC, they are desperate, that becomes blatantly obvious during the interview. If you take a job at SCC on one of their apprenticeship schemes beware, you will be used to do mind numbingly boring repetitive jobs and receive no proper training, they will promise the earth and deliver nothing, a fully qualified I.T engineer/technician at SCC knows very little about I.T, laughably so usually, not even being able to put processors into motherboards without breaking them, not even knowing how to use Microsoft Office etc, it's very sad. Management seem to be mostly failed engineers. Customers have a very poor opinion of SCC and quite rightly so. They keep harping on about winning prestigious awards like the CRN award, this from what I can tell seems to be nothing like on a par with an award from a respected I.T body such as Microsoft, it looks like a pay-to-win award if you take a look at their website. Office in Birmingham is not in a good state, the head office is refurbished but the National Distribution Centre behind it has had very little money spent on it, the offices there are dirty, smelly with broken chairs etc, funny that they let customers look around, what must they think? Constant bragging about company profits but very little sign of any pay rises as a meaningful thank you for staff efforts. Bragging about a bare minimum pension scheme and allowing staff to buy or sell one weeks holiday annually (WOW) One day a year allowed to do voluntary work. No bonus.

    I worked at SCC full-time

    Pros

A lot of great people work there, great teams and although the systems are dated, the processes are great

    Cons

Very difficult to get any pay rises, increased benefits or anything that is out of the initial basic package, management do not want to support or encourage progression. HR treat people awfully

I worked at SCC full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Many nice and helpful people work at SCC but this doesn't make up for the shambles that this organisation is in.

    Cons

    - Processes are missing, unworkable or nobody even knows how they should work. Things are accomplished by begging people to help rather than process. - Modern ITSM tooling is in place but horrifically underutilised. Used mainly for ticketing with no infrastructure integration and little self-service / automated workflow. - No minimum supported level for hardware or os (many client's running infrastructure well outside of vendor support) - Management don't manage their teams effectively and there were no KPIs or formal individual reviews / catch ups. - No on-boarding or mentoring outside of "here's a couple of documents you may want to read" - SCC ignore that fact that a large number of employees work outside of Birmingham. If you want anything done you really need to be in Birmingham or you'll struggle. Also most if not all minor employee perks are purely Birmingham centric. - SDMs are dumped onto client sites with no on-boarding, training or facilities and expected to "just get on with it". - Communication is (unless your in Birmingham) shockingly bad. - SCC predominately uses previous generation technologies. - There is a very high level of employee attrition with many not finishing their probationary period before deciding to leave. SCC don't know or care why employees are leaving as there are no exit interviews. - Employee benefits are based on the minimum SCC think they can get away with and pay rises are few and far between. - Expenses are very difficult to claim (seemly by design) and private car mileage doesn't cover the fuel consumption of even the most fuel efficient vehicle. You will be nominated a "home office" and a round trip to this location (even if you never travel there) will be deducted from any mileage claims.

I worked at SCC full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Easy jobs Unqualified management are easy to manipulate The collective hatred for the management brings the staff together

    Cons

Poor pension. Poor pay. SCC is the most unprofessional company I have ever heard of, never mind worked for SCC is run from the top, management are just there to carry out orders and take the blame when it inevitably all goes wrong. Customers and staff are treated with contempt. No pay rises, if you get an appraisal it’s always overdue and they start by telling you there is no money available for a pay rise. No incentive to excel, just do what you need to do and stop. Mind numbingly boring. Poor office conditions, broken furniture, dirty break rooms, awful toilets. Seriously depressing working environment and jobs. No chance of promotion or progression, some people have been doing the same job for 20 years+. 23 days annual leave. Only 8 days paid sickness. No valid training, they are scared of training staff properly because they know you will leave when qualified, I did a few days training and passed an exam they more or less forced me to cheat. Poor communication between management and staff and between departments, different teams are working against each other. Blame culture, management point out any small mistake you make, but never praise your positive achievements. Bullying management are so scared of their superiors they bully staff to produce the required figures. No bonus. Massive staff turnover, don’t bother making any friends, if they have any sense they will leave asap

    Pros

Easy to get a job at scc, they are desperate Paid on time

    Cons

No proper training. scc doesn't care about its staff at all treated like dirt bonuses given to some departments amount to an average wage only if you are a top performer every month of the year 8 days sick pay then straight to ssp (and straight to hr to explain why you had time off) 23 days holiday, 25 only after 5 years service no pay rises appraisals are a waste of time, just copy and paste last years, no proper targets

I have been working at SCC full-time for more than a year

    Pros

My time here has been positive thus far. It seems like a lot of negative reviews have come from engineers or warehouse staff. I can only comment on my own experience here, and as a recent member of the team SCC does seem like a good company to work for. There is opportunity for progression (even if it isn't a direct promotion) via training and courses. I guess it is more about seeing the opportunity in your job, rather than waiting for someone to give it to you. Experiences with senior management have been very positive; CEO seems very friendly, in fact most sen. management do. Of course, there is the odd grumpy or rude manager/director etc. but you'll get there at any company. Day to day work is good, and I fortunately work in a fun and positive team with very friendly people. As a whole, other staff/colleagues are friendly too.

    Cons

-You do need to ask for extra opportunities etc. Don't wait to be given pay rise/training etc. Just go and get it. -Like with other big companies, things do move slowly. -Birmingham campuses are out-dated and a bit grim, but there is work to improve this.
