Good way to jump into the workforce out of college

      Pros

Employee-owned, good benefits, generous PTO, flexible hours, overtime

      Cons

Hiring process was quick and easy, but unclear as to what my actual responsibilities would be. They throw you into big projects and don't doubt your ability to do a great job, but its stressful and a lot of pressure for a new employee, especially if you're still trying to figure things out. Pay is less than normal for the engineering field. Lots of internal gossip.

      Pros

If you get in with this company, stay with them! I’ve never worked for an employee owned company before, and it’s been such a welcomed and positive change. No office drama, opportunities to easily move to other job locations if you’re interested, and the option of remote work if your job allows for it. Great company, great people.

      Cons

None in my experience so far.

      Cons

Lots of change and new technologies to learn - some find that hard, I like the progress and achievements.

      Pros

Employee owned company. Good group of people, room to develop new skills in the beginning of a career.

      Cons

Not a lot of growth opportunities after a period of time. Not a lot of emphasis on employee training and development from senior level executives.

SCS - A POSITIVE Place to work!!

      Pros

SCS Engineers is a great company to work for. I have worked here for 10 years. It is an employee-owned company - "Ownership Makes a Difference". The work atmosphere & fellow co-workers are a plus not to mention all the benefits the company offers.

      Cons

I can't think of any Cons right now but if I come up with any, I'll update my review!

Good Company Taking Steps in the Right Direction

      Pros

Very focused on client satisfaction now. A change the guard some years ago has lead to awesome growth; particularly in the Southeast. A great place to learn quickly - new employees are trained quickly and put in front of clients to increase their visibility and gain confidence. You're also encouraged to care about your work and the quality of your product. Pretty solid benefits package - I was happy with it. The fact that SCS is employee owned is a nice bonus. Emphasis is put on formal internal project management training. Many other processes that were assumed to be intrinsically understood are now being formalized and actively taught.

      Cons

Going through some growing pains right now. The company is trying to make the leap from a medium-sized to large, so success across the profit centers has fluctuated. I believe however that SCS has the management team in place that can make it work sooner rather than later. That same change in leadership has lead to quite a bit of turnover. Veteran employees have found it necessary to prove themselves all over again; newer employees get the benefit of the doubt. If you're looking for a firm with a large variety of practice areas, this isn't the place. Moreover, it's easy to get pigeonholed into a highly specific practice area - for younger professionals that can be a double edged sword. You can become an expert in a single area very quickly at the cost of gaining experience most if not all others. The internal structure of the company discourages working in multiple practice areas.

SCS provides a positive work atmosphere where employees are given the resources to succeed & further their career.

      Pros

As an employee owned company, SCS' motto is "Ownership makes a difference" and it shows in their employees. Colleagues and superiors are knowledgeable and professional, and take the time to teach the younger professionals. The hard work ethic is contagious, and employees are encouraged to learn new things, push the envelope of new designs & techniques within the industry, & are given the tools to do so.

      Cons

In the consulting industry, it's often "feast or famine" when it comes to workload. There are times when multiple deadlines need to be met in a short span, and other times when work is spread thin (though not as often).

May Be Great Other Places, But Not Here

      Pros

Employee Owned Company Exposure to a different side of engineering Relaxed Semi-Casual environment Great place to get your foot in the door Lots of experienced people

      Cons

High hidden politics-From the outside it seems very righteous, not the case Talking behind others' backs Rigid culture comprised of people with superiority complexes. Highly unprofessional atmosphere where people can use the most disgusting language and no one says a word, including management. How is this okay?! Beware of things being dropped on you at 4 or 5pm.
