I worked at SDL full-time for more than a year

    Pros

You'll get to put SDL on your CV, which is a big plus if you want to work in translation anywhere else. You'll get to translate for some big name clients. The hours are pretty good, although you are expected to do overtime to help others if needed. Very relaxed atmosphere if you keep your head down. Decent pay but nothing amazing. Very passionate colleagues. You'll learn a lot. Management were nice.

    Cons

Maybe this is the industry as a whole, but it felt very dead in the office. If you don't like to talk to people, then this is perfect for you. Everyone is very nice and helpful, but it's not a lively environment. The office isn't very large either, so don't expect any room for growth.

I worked at SDL full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Lots of responsibility from the off, can build experience quickly

    Cons

Not worth stopping more than a couple of years. Salary and rewards are poor. Overtime is expected and required for the amount of work the PMO has to handle. High staff turnover. New hires are mainly inexperienced graduates or interns meaning lots of time is spent training new staff. All focus of higher management seems to be on the share price, pressuring project managers to find more revenue and cut internal costs (including staffing).

I have been working at SDL full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    Friendly atmosphere with supportive colleagues

    Cons

Untruthful from many perspectives. Will dump you to the side-rode and make you the enemy within hours, once decided to get rid of you. Be careful!

I have been working at SDL full-time for more than a year

    Pros

There are some fantastic people at SDL. Informal atmosphere Many social events Work laptop Charity days WFH

    Cons

The salary is definitely at the lower end of the scale, and you're expected to do overtime on a regular basis, often adding another day to your week. Weekend work is sometimes expected. No overtime is paid out, no TOIL given.

I worked at SDL full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Good development/pays for courses Work from home on occasions Laptops for everyone Social activities regularly Pension Leave options etc.

    Cons

They will offer a bonus package but then will not stick to it. They will change it once the work is done leaving you with practically nothing. Putting in extra hours for minimum pay. No overtime pay. Senior Management is unfair and do not think about impact on employees Pay grade is not so good compared to work being done The reason for the low rating is because of the trust lost in this company by being untruthful

I worked at SDL full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Decent flexible working. Amazing team! Some great people. Good products (mis-invested). Made some exceptional strides to implement and invest in Professional Development.

    Cons

Senior management for translation are clueless about the web side of business. They effectively allowed Tridion to fall to its knees and made it super difficult to position (little innovation and not enough meaningful features). Difficult to progress up the ladder. Product Training was effectively killed off through shortsightedness. SDL is a translation company that happens to own a CMS, in my opinion.

I worked at SDL full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Some great people work here. You are provided a lot of support and professional development is steady so a good place to begin a career.

    Cons

Promotions are contingent on bottom-kissing culture. They are also awarded within silo's so you may find a mediocre PM in the 'Easy' department (Button clicking workflow projects) gets promoted above you whilst you're busting a nut inventing nuclear fusion for much more demanding clients.
