I have been working at SSE full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good salary, safety culture, secure employment, some realy good people to work with.

    Cons

No need to apply if you are going up against a relative or a friend of a relative of a middle to senior mananager. The Nepotism in the Customer Relations department is blatant and HR/Recruitment have no involvement in the recruitment process. There's a lot of nepotism in most companies but it's beyond obvious, other departments are also affected but it's particularly evident in this department. Fortunately I'm no longer in the department which is a plus.

    Advice to Management

Do a proper review of the recruitment process and involve some impartiality, companies who don't move with the times will eventually falter.

    Pros

Travel - Easy to get to and from work with a subsidised bus service. Cycle to work scheme.
Colleagues - Some great people to work with.
Canteen - Great on site canteen with a wide range of food to choose from.

    Cons

Micromanagement - Very little room for exceptional/personal circumstances. These will rarely be taken into consideration.
Annual Leave - Very difficult to obtain despite making suggestions or arrangements.
Blame Culture - SSE will do everything possible to point the finger and blame someone.
Sickness Policy - Expect your line manager to perform a home visit.
Lateness Policy - Despite the amount of unclaimed minutes/hours, be expected to make up the time when it suits them.
IT Systems - Outdated, promises of new systems which never gets implemented.
Workload - You're expected to complete work of those who are absent, as well as your own work. Most of the time, your work is underappreciated.
Targets/Stats - Given unrealistic targets, very stats driven.
