I worked at SSE full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Great training opportunities, the company invests in developing staff

    Cons

    - Office based, fixed hours, not very flexible in terms of working from home or working from a mobile location
    - Outdated systems that were very challenging to work with

    Advice to Management

    - Investing into new technologies to bring systems up to date to meet business needs and future needs. Challenging to work on systems that required heavy manual input.

I have been working at SSE full-time

    Pros

    Good pension and benefits package

    Cons

Not enough support or resources provided from above to carry out your job. Too different between depots and not consistent across the board. Wages for staff poor and need increasing otherwise recruiting will be even more difficult than it is at the moment.
Tied into council contracts that are not profitable through poor negotiations.

    Advice to Management

Invest into it properly or walk away from the non profit contracts as not sustainable

I worked at SSE full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Benefits, flexible working and nice crowd of people to work with

    Cons

Management are lazy and dont understand their roles. Very male dominated and very little room for progression. PDP reviews your marked down in case you look like your doing "too well" at your job

    Advice to Management

Learn about the office you run and the time and effort put in by staff

I worked at SSE full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - The non-brainwashed staff are friendly most of the time.
    - Pay is adequate.
    - Facilities are generally quite good.

    Cons

    - Fascistic rule enforcement, which is strict to the point of absurdity. A good example is health and safety. I'm all for it, but when it's enforced in such an aggressive, zero-tolerance, draconian fashion, something is alarmingly wrong. It's very obvious that it's as much a tactic to pacify and brainwash the workforce, as it is to make the workplace "safe". Easily the most hostile culture I've ever encountered, with SSE essentially attempting to install Traumatophobia into each and every employee.

    - Similar to the point above, SSE is obsessed with targets and micromanagement. Avoid like the plague if that's not your thing.

    - Unethical business practices that are constantly under investigation and scrutiny from the Ofgem, the UK's energy regulator. Ironic that an organisation obsessed with rules (SSE), seemingly can't follow the rules of its own regulator. Complete hypocrisy.

    Advice to Management

Quit enforcing "golden rules" like fascist dictators. The world isn't black and white. A confrontational workplace is not a "healthy" workplace, period.

Practice what you preach. If you're so big on rules, at least follow the letter of the law, and energy regulator. If you can't do that, then you have no business playing the moral high-ground card.

Enough with the micromanagement. If you keep employees on an incredibly short leash, you'll never get the most out of them.

I worked at SSE full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

If you were good 24 hours a week basic of 15k but could earn 40-50k if good, store vouchers every now and then. Left to your own devices if good performance not a bad job all in all

    Cons

Weather, hassle by management for numbers unethical practises and script high staff turnover. All anyone was interested in was sales and numbers of conversions
