    I worked at SSE part-time

    Pros

    The pay was pretty good

    Cons

Stop treating your staff like children, warnings for not holding the handrail as you walk down stairs-CRAZY!

    Advice to Management

The place needs a complete overhaul and staff retention needs to be looked at. When I started I was in a team of 11, a year on and there is one person still with the company!

I have been working at SSE full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Reasonable Salary for the role

    Cons

    - Work Life Balance - The stress is insane having to apologise to every single customer you deal with. How can it be sincere when we have a culture of giving away money just to keep people happy.
    - Progression only if your face fits and you suck up to every idea, even when you know it is crazy
    - Managers who are completely clueless and not fit to lead
    - Sickness process. I took badly ill and was signed off for 2 weeks on the monday, yet I was asked to come in for a face to face meeting that same week even with a GP's line. With a follow up a week after that. Stop working us to the bone and allow your staff to get better.
    - HOLIDAYS!! At the time of writing, I checked the next available full week off and it is 13 months away.. No wonder people go off sick.

    Advice to Management

Multi-skill everyone. In regards to telephony/call centres so many other suppliers have one person able to do everything, if we could do that without having to phone 143 different people. Stop cheaping out on licenses for software and provide us with the tools we need to do our job.

Actually treat your staff like adults - In my team of 8 i know of 4 currently taking interviews elsewhere and we've only been here a year.

If you are going to expect staff to provide the best level of service and efficiency you need to recognise this. If 50% (and higher) of the staff just want to rant about the job, surely you need to realise something isn't right.

I have been working at SSE full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Salary ok and if you a "yes" person you'll be fine.

    Cons

As some of the previous reviews have mentioned, SSE Management are a bunch of dictators and need to practice what they preach !! H&S is completely OTT, I am a big believer in H&S, however SSE go to the extreme, The senior managers walk around with blinkers on.

    Advice to Management

Stop preaching to Managers about looking after their team and being an engaging manager, when your communication and direction is abysmal. Also, look up the word EMPOWERMENT. You employ experts to do a job then tell them how to do it !!!

I have been working at SSE full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

SSE has great values and this is clear at all levels. We are encouraged to look out for each other and we talk a lot of safety and well being - which is nice. We have great aspirations about being sustainable and being present in our communities which I'm very proud of. There is a lot to be proud of actually.

    Cons

We don't showcase our employees the way we should - I hear a lot of great stories from across the business about people living the values and making a difference to colleagues and customers. But we don't celebrate it - so it's easy to feel under valued. Which is a shame given how successful we actually are.

    Advice to Management

Invest time in people - celebrate and showcase the good that is already out there.
