I have been working at STA Travel full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

A great environment, full of people with a common passion. Senior team which have the interests of staff at heart in everything. Feels like they work to do all they can within means for you. Good staff benefits. Office opposite the tube, so well connected.

    Cons

Based in Kensington, so you'll never live near the office.

    Advice to Management

Continue the quest for work place happiness, and keep working on the companies culture. Staff longevity and commitment means everything in their provision of great service.

    No Opinion of CEO

I worked at STA Travel full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The people are the only thing worth going in for.

    Cons

If you care about customers and your sanity it’s not worth it. Salary is terrible, extensive unpaid overtime is expected and not appreciated, no real benefits. No care for customers, only how much revenue they’re making the company. May not be the same for all stores as I do know some people who love working for STA, but they seem to be staff who work in affluent heavily student based areas who make hitting their targets...

    Advice to Management

Look after your staff better, increase staffing levels, listen to your staff. Having the same target for every travel expert regardless of whether they are in a busy store or quiet doesn’t do anything for motivation when you’re working twice as hard as staff in affluent areas.

I have been working at STA Travel full-time for more than 3 years

      Pros

The company culture reflects the travellers spirit. It's adventurous, embracing and supportive. It's become cliche here to celebrate the culture and the people, but people do make a place. STA is changing rapidly, but this is not unlike any other company in the industry. One of the perks of this is that there are tonnes of opportunities to try new things in other departments. A drive for efficiency also means there...

      Cons

The downside to this is that frequency of change leaves the proverbial dust in the air. As a result, some people have lost their direction and are struggling to maintain morale. As it is a travel company fuelled by many young and ambitious people, many strive to exercise their creativity, wisdom and ambition, but this can be difficult and ultimately frustrating when it feels as though there is no agreed direction.

      Advice to Management

When I wrote this review management had recently changed (again) so I can't comment on the current management setup. However, I think STA has been lacking decisive action throughout this process. What it needs now is stability and definition driven from the the top down. While staff hear of more people leaving, especially in management, their confidence is rattled.

I have been working at STA Travel part-time

      Pros

The people. There are so many like minded individuals working together. The atmosphere is fun and relaxed but hardworking. Travel perks are a bonus. If you love travelling and are good with people it's a fab place to work. Good opportunities to move to different roles within the business and to work overseas.

      Cons

You're working in travel so accept that you'll not be earning mega-bucks though the possibilities for earning commission are very good if you work in sales. Pressure is high though - there is a lot to learn.

I have been working at STA Travel full-time

      Pros

I have been with the company for almost 4 years and love it. The people are down to earth, passionate and just laid back enough, without feeling like you’re getting nowhere. Hard work is recognised in fam trips, incentive trips, flexible working & autonomy. Progression is quick if you’re prepared to work and the beauty of it being a big company is there are lots of options for new roles.

      Cons

The pay is pretty standard in the travel industry. While you won’t be paid figures that will change the world, you’re given a fair wage and perks in terms of travel!

      Pros

      Cons

      > no different to the rest of the travel industry, but going through some changes
