    - Good work/life balance
    - Smart people

    - An overall good place to kick-start an engineering career
    - Merit (although also political) based advancement

    Cons

    - Higher-up management disconnected from reality of engineering and product design
    - Great ideas get impeded by funding problems

    Advice to Management

Take time to understand that with a business degree one cannot understand engineering in a day.

Middle management make sensible, well thought decisions. Co-workers are professional and a pleasure to work with.

    Cons

Board level management need replaced. Salaries are low in comparison to USA and Europe. Hard to get promoted. Best way for promotion is to get a new job in a new company!

I have been working at STMicroelectronics full-time

    Pros

Huge international presence, many experienced engineers, very good equipment available. ST have their own technology line making them leaders amongst only a few semiconductor companies overall.

    Cons

Even though big company, which implies stable employment prospects, they tend to have vast human resource. That is often pointed to when cuts are required to improve financial position.

    Advice to Management

Keep relations to academia as an excellent source of qualified employees. Allow for more opportunities for knowledge sharing between sites through expatriate schemes.

    Pros

It is a good family-friendly place to work. The people are great and you get opportunity to work new and cutting-edge hardware.
This is a large company with many sites throughout the world and plenty of opportunity work with and travel to colleagues abroad.

    Cons

Software engineering follows an outdated "waterfall" methodology, which is better suited to hardware development.
The large organisation can lead to frustrating bureaucracy and poor communication

I have been working at STMicroelectronics full-time

    Pros

    - Good engineers with a breadth of knowledge.
    - Interesting product development
    - Friendly and informal atmosphere. Good office location.
    - Excellent work-life balance.

    Cons

Design effort could be better focused by management. Salaries and compensation is slightly below industry standard and could definitely be improved.

    Advice to Management

More efficient management of employees. Replace the CEO. Offer more competitive salaries to prevent losing employees to competition! Otherwise, keep up the good work.

    Pros

Great people with a lot of different activities and skill sets all in one place. Rather than moving companies for a change of role you just transferred internally.

    Cons

There are a lot of people with too much power and not enough knowledge making company wide decisions and mandating things on others.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the faultless management of the company.
