Dreadful - Avoid at all costs

      Pros

None apart from the other support workers who are amazing

      Cons

Absolutely horrendous company to work for. Management are horrible and have a clique culture and if your face doesn't fit they will make your life hell and force you out. Their head of services and devolompment manager has absolutely no Empathy, Respect, Integrity or caring, which is quite ironic as she is the one who apparently came up with those company values. If you have the misfortune of working under that manager you will see what I mean. The lies told about the job at interview were staggering. At no point do they explain your expected to work 8-10 hour shifts which are Lone working and that's not to mention the 10 hour lone working night shift they don't tell you about either while being expected to watch over troubled young people involved with drugs and alcohol abuse with no cctv or staff back up as management insist on lone working. 2 week induction was bare minimum with alot of down time. Trainers were unprofessional, hair scrapped back and chewing on chewing gum like an animal grazing while giving presentations, easily distracted and diverged from training alot. Avoid at all costs, unsafe and and toxoc work environment

Delegating culture running in panic mode.

8 Aug 2019 - Escalation Agent in Edinburgh, Scotland, Scotland

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Multicultural, flexibility with shifts if you are NOT an agent.

      Cons

Some TLs should never have been promoted and completely destroy the work environment as they do not have the skills and only know how to micromamage. High workload, lots of pressure. Delegating is the key here. To get promoted you must be flexible which means say yes to everything and end up mad. They love taking advantage of agents by giving more tasks with the promise of development and career progression in the distant future. Above all worst salary in town, bad reputation that they are trying to change by spending money on marketing. If that money was spent on your current employees everyone would be happier and your attrition levels would not go through the roof. Dirty, unhygienic offices, Facilities manager could not care less if the place is riddled with dirt. Oh and mice from the canal sometimes running around bins.

Conveyor belt call centre - friendly colleagues

      Pros

It is a good place to work if you are travelling the world, and just need an income whilst living in Edinburgh. The staff are friendly within an international working environment.

      Cons

It is less ideal for working long-term, limited options for career progression, and working for many of their clients can feel like you are a trained robot working on a conveyor belt, work is very repetitive, with strict limits to talk time. I also found their sick policy very lacking human understanding.

      Typical Call Center Experience

13 Nov 2020 - Inbound Customer Service Agent in Moravia
      Recommend
      CEO Approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

Can be a great learning opportunity for young people and even a chance at career growth but this heavily depends on personality and to a lesser extent what the assigned client is. Best thing you can do if considering working in customer service is first to do some research and get a solid idea of what your day-to-day will be like. If you think you can bring yourself to enjoy working for the kinds of companies outsourced to Sykes then go for it! "Natural born sellers" and people with hap·py-go-luck·y attitudes might actually have a great time!

      Cons

I trained and worked at a company site in Costa Rica, a Latin-American spanish speaking country, sitting close to an older gentleman from the US during most of my time there. Unfortunately, he couldn't bear the pressure of our ATT customers and called it quits about a month in, despite having perfect English and easily being the most patient and kind agent in our group. Not having worked there for long, I can't really say with absolute certainty, but I feel like Sykes' issues stem mostly from what to SOME people is a "toxic" mixture of a juvenile work environment, repetitive and tedious tasks, and the immense stress management and time commitment that is required of bottom-level employees.
