I have been working at Sage full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

There are some lovely, and very talented people here. The benefits are excellent and the culture has noticeably improved since the previous Chief Exec was removed. Sage actively encourages its employees to take up to 5 paid days per year to do charitable work in the local community. It genuinely feels like they want you to give something back. Which feels great - both in terms of how you see the company you work for,...

    Cons

Training and development of staff beyond the initial induction has been very poor. I have worked for Sage for 10 years and have only been on one official training course for software I use as part of my job. I had to put together a business case for the training and arrange it all myself. It's not a very organic part of the job and makes staff feel undervalued. This has shown signs of change recently with some new initiatives...

    Advice to Management

Invest. In staff training, internal staff salaries, and in the HQ. Long-term strategies for growing the business rather than trying to appeal to the shareholders every 5 minutes.

I have been working at Sage full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

So my last review of Sage was balanced but quite scathing of the then CEO and his policies. Since then we have a new CEO and importantly we can start to see the effects of this change in management. So I felt it time to write a new review (the old review has been deleted). Sage has a large number of product teams and an IS department that offer a wide variety of languages, platforms and frameworks. This means that...

    Cons

So looking back at my last review I was most strong against the Salesforce strategy enforced by the then CEO. The penny has now dropped in upper management and we have changed course on what I believe was a damaging route. There is still some Salesforce development within Sage, but if it is targeted towards existing Salesforce users then there is no means to suspect that it will not be a success. Many of the other...

    Advice to Management

Management, or at least the shareholders seem to have listened, or maybe taken notice of the share price and made the appropriate changes. I still believe that senior management needs to have the guts to say what they really think. I see all too often people in senior roles say the diplomatic thing or take thee middle road because it is the easy route for their careers. Show that you are real leaders, make exciting...

I have been working at Sage full-time for more than a year

    Pros

New leadership and alignment with Intacct is making a really positive impact to how people are feeling about their roles, the environment and the opportunities. Exciting changes, more agile working. People seem motivated and excited about what they are doing. Office is great, lots of group sports activities during the day encouraged, focus on well being. I’m absolutely loving it.

    Cons

Office is a bit remote from other facilities.

    Advice to Management

Continue driving the changing and get people out of their comfort zones to try new things.

I have been working at Sage part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great culture, interesting and varied work Big effort being made to talk customer, colleague success and innovation. Needs concerted effort to translate into business change Opportunity from becoming part of Big Sage Flexible working environment Good benefits

    Cons

Still some post acquisition bedding in needs to take place Clear direction needs to be re-established locally. Recent changes will support this.

    Advice to Management

Things are set up nicely for success. Keep doing this and the changes across the organisation will come

    Pros

Love the culture, people and team. Joined couple of years back and totally enjoying working here. Lot of flexibility and great managers make great difference. Amazing employee benefits too

    Cons

Senior leadership could do better Bit of politics but it’s conmon everywhere Talks global but still think local - long way to go Leaders working winces ages think they own a company- mindset change required

    Advice to Management

    Communicate and be genuine!

    Neutral Outlook

I have been working at Sage full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    - After a tough few years, Sage seems to be coming out of the other side with a lot of hard work - Really good online and in person training courses, lots has been invested in L&D in the last few years - If you are smart, hard working and willing to bend some of your values (become a yes person) you can go far in Sage - Some centres of excellent in the company like Canada, the Sage Business Cloud Accounting teams,...

    Cons

    - Lack of clear strategy to evolve into a Cloud first technology provider - too many EVPs believe the strategy sits with them and no collaboration across departments. The results are often random new innovation launches which actually don't meet customer need or market demand but make engineering and tech leaders look good and tick the innovation box - Disconnection of senior leadership to the reality of implementation...

    Advice to Management

You need to nail your strategy - the VSGM doesn't work and vast areas of the business still don't know how we're going to transform into cloud first

I have been working at Sage full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - supportive management - endless opportunities - great colleagues -refreshing attitude to CSA

    Cons

    - inconsistent messages communicated internally and externally, although this has started to improve since Steve Hare became CEO - bonus scheme unfair to non-revenue generating colleagues (although this has been addressed in FY19 under leadership of Steve Hare)

    Advice to Management

    - continue to listen to colleagues - its important to show the importance of culture and colleagues in external comms to the market -colleague success area of focus is a big YES
