Thank you for your feedback. We are glad to hear that you had a good overall experience while you worked at Sage. The sales profession is definitely very competitive anywhere you go, and we pride ourselves in having a "work hard, play hard" culture.

I worked at Sage full-time for more than 8 years

      Pros

The people are what built Sage but too late to save it.

      Cons

Totally lacking direction. Lost out to the competition and treat staff horrendously over last few years, 35 long serving loyal sales staff sacked without notice and most of good employees have now left of their own accorde .

      Advice to Management

I fear it's too late, Sage have thought they were untouchable and treat their customers as a cash cow. By simply adding the word cloud to your core software does not make it a cloud solution.

Former Employee - Outbound Sales Representative in Newcastle upon Tyne, England

I worked at Sage full-time for more than a year

      Pros

Staff can dress in casual wear, allowing everyone to go to work feeling comfortable in the clothing they have to sit in for 8 hours per day.

      Cons

Many cons - in general a constant high turnover of staff with far too much pressure for the rewards. Unfair and unrealistic high targets which if not achieved in a short time could lead to dismissal as well an inconsistency on commission potential. Probably one of the worst experiences in my whole career.

I worked at Sage full-time for more than 3 years

        Pros

        1. if you put your head down you can grind away at your quota and really blow away your number each month. as a quota carrying rep, you can do very very well for yourself. you can regularly hit 1.5, 2x, 3x your monthly commission. 2. most of the managers i worked with are excellent, not too much micro-management, except around month end 3. they usually run fun contests with cool prizes for quota carrying reps at month...

        Cons

        1. uncertain product line future. competition is very tough and embraces the cloud whereas Sage isn't fully there. things are good now, but its harder and harder to retain customers 2. lots of changes. While Sage overall is a large company and you would think things take awhile to happen, changes at the regional office level happen very quickly. be ready to embrace change, things can change overnight. sometimes this...

        Advice to Management

try to limit the vast, sweeping changes that are implemented. i understand this is what the business needs sometimes but the frequency and scope of the changes should be limited as much as possible to give employees time to adjust.

I worked at Sage full-time for more than 5 years

        Pros

Great products, great people. Great place to learn to be a closer on first call.

        Cons

No career development, internal partners and accountants were biggest competitors!!

        Advice to Management

Build a plan for staff to advance, doing the same thing over and over gets repetitive if there is no chance for advanceent

I worked at Sage full-time for more than a year

        Pros

The team work is strong in the Sage sales side, I worked with some really great people. Nice downtown office with amazing view of the city!

        Cons

Completely unorganized as a Sales Department, no one is on the same page. Managers gossip about other managers, within the sales department as well as the marketing department. Sales managers tell their teams about what the managers problems are, stating "they don't belong in that position" "they got this job because a friend works here". Even WORSE some managers talk in a disbelief of how their manager got the job....
