I have been working at Sage full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

I’ve worked at Sage for 12+ years, straight out of university. Starting with supporting customers with use on our software for a few years, I’ve also worked in development teams and led different applications as a Product Manager. Plenty of opportunities for hard working individuals. • Great benefits and many opportunities for learning and career planning, including 5 personal development days and 5 volunteer days...

    Cons

Over the last couple of years, we seem to have implemented an austerity programme where to reduce costs we don’t, for example, naturally backfill roles when good people move onwards and upwards, this puts extra pressure on teams. Having said that, we appear to have come through the cost cutting and regained our focus on doing the right thing and making space to innovate again. A frustration for me is decision making...

    Advice to Management

In my opinion, historically our best leaders and most talented people have started their careers in Customer Services, serving our customers, learning from them and carrying that knowledge and empathy throughout the business during their Sage careers. Put simply, I think we need to grow our Customer Services teams again with extra capacity to serve our customer today and develop them to be the leaders of tomorrow. To...

I have been working at Sage full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

There are some lovely, and very talented people here. The benefits are excellent and the culture has noticeably improved since the previous Chief Exec was removed. Sage actively encourages its employees to take up to 5 paid days per year to do charitable work in the local community. It genuinely feels like they want you to give something back. Which feels great - both in terms of how you see the company you work for,...

    Cons

Training and development of staff beyond the initial induction has been very poor. I have worked for Sage for 10 years and have only been on one official training course for software I use as part of my job. I had to put together a business case for the training and arrange it all myself. It's not a very organic part of the job and makes staff feel undervalued. This has shown signs of change recently with some new initiatives...

    Advice to Management

Invest. In staff training, internal staff salaries, and in the HQ. Long-term strategies for growing the business rather than trying to appeal to the shareholders every 5 minutes.

I have been working at Sage part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The people - colleagues and managers are 'normal' people and focused on working towards the same goals supporting customers, colleagues and innovation! The company offers challenges/opportunities in return for hard work. There have been some long hours, but its been recognised and working flexibly allows to take the time back when needed. Sage Foundation - Colleagues get 5 days to give back to the community, it's part...

    Cons

Tools and processes - not all processes are fit for purpose, can be frustrating sometimes as other stakeholders won't have the same objectives as you when you are trying to get approvals/support Roles and Responsibilities - if you are a team player not so much of an issue, but sometimes the R&R isn't defined so duplications/things slipping through the gaps where no clarity on who was responsible for what.

    Advice to Management

New CEO is very personable and tell's it how it is - very transparent and recognises the effort put in but also realistic on what needs to be done going forward. Management need to look at R&R within teams especially where moving to global structure and centralising functions. Tools and Processes - Colleagues are very capable but sometimes lack of the tools/processes to support slows things down/hinders progress....

I have been working at Sage full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The company is really work life balance friendly allowing flexible working within reason as needed. Once you have proved yourself you'll be well looked after.

    Cons

The first year to eighteen months can be tough and you might need some stamina

I worked at Sage full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    * Excellent processes means you learn how to do software development properly. I learned more in 3 years at Sage than developers with similar experience at other companies. The technologies, best practices and processes I learned at Sage means I am in effect senior to developers with 8 years experience at my new job. * Excellent work life balance. * Great Benefits, especially ShareSave program.

    Cons

    * Very top heavy company, managers upon managers deciding how to slice the cheese.

    Advice to Management

Save some money and get rid of some middle management. Let developers do what they do best.

I have been working at Sage full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Lots of change and therefore opportunity. Fast-evolving and good people. Most are very positive and willing to help. Fair work life balance and enjoy the atmosphere in the office. Sage is a people focused company and treats employees well. It's amusing to read some reviews as their authors are in for a rude awakening if they believe Sage is difficult.

    Cons

Need to be more nimble and not act as a big corporate. Faster execution, speed to market and hire people who are entrepreneurial rather than processes orientated.

    Advice to Management

    See Cons.
