I worked at Sally Beauty (More than a year)

    Pros

    Continued development and training opportunities.
    Getting to know regular customers.
Staff Discount: 20% off of trade price.
    Good staff morale.

    Cons

Customers will ask about many different issues regarding hair, skin&beauty, you are expected to have a good knowledge of every product in store so that you can best advise them. This can be overwhelming at first as there is a lot to learn about the products, hair dyes and beauty products.

    Advice to Management

Assist staff early on with their learning, rather than waiting 6 months before they do their Sally Academy

I worked at Sally Beauty (More than a year)

    Pros

Fun to work with hair and beauty, with nice regular customers. Can take a lunch break when you want, not really a schedule to your day which is nice because you can sort of do what you want to do that day.

    Cons

Bad management. 20% discount but anybody can get 20% off on VAT free day. Not enough training provided and was expected to reach unrealistic targets selling magazines that nobody wants to buy. Rota was always changed at the last minute. Not very good incentives and not very good pay unless you completed the hair or beauty training which I did and was there for over a year but was never signed off because they couldn't be bothered so never got the higher rate of pay.

I have been working at Sally Beauty part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

You can work with great people, and most of the customers are lovely, it's not a fast paced job at all and the pay is okay and you get 20% discount

    Cons

Lazy management, staff get treated so badly, you have no voice what so ever, I could go on! If I knew what I was getting myself into I would never of applied, because of this job I now suffer with anxiety as do my other colleges, but this is my store! Other stores may be totally fine

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees, deal with issues instead of ignoring them and twisting it round on the person with the issue

I worked at Sally Beauty full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

You get to work in an industry that is constantly growing and changing,
Tattoos, piercings and colorful hair are all accepted.
    Employee incentives and discounts.
You gain a lot of knowledge about products.
    Opportunities to advance.
Great management training. You learn a lot of skills that can be applied to other careers.
Corporate has improved their communication with stores in recent years.

    Cons

Payroll hours are constantly changing based on store performance and in some stores you may be required to work alone for several hours or close the store alone.
How great the job can be is highly dependent on how great your supervisor is. The quality of the job and work environment vary quite a bit from store to store and district to district.
Work-life balance can be difficult in a management position.
