I worked at ScS Sofas full-time for more than a year

    Pros

I suppose the roof at head office keeps the rain off your head?

    Cons

It's hard to thin down this list enough to get it all in the character limit here, but I'll see if I can give you a taste... The all-pervading culture of blame and self-interest makes for a truly poisonous atmosphere. Imagine a stereotypical old-school salesman and everything that is awful about them. Now imagine a company run entirely by people like that. I have never seen so many unnecessary BMW and Audi... company cars in one place. A perfect case-study for the Dunning-Kruger effect, with whole teams of people employed to do jobs that are then over-ruled and shut down by the autocrats in upper management, who truly believe they know better than the specialists they've employed. The relentless pursuit of sales at the cost of everything else, combined with a total disregard for the customer at every level is quite astonishing. Dishonesty is the default setting. Quality, service and customer satisfaction are so far down the list as to be non-existent. The fact that they are deliberately targeting the lower end of the market with low-quality tat and unnecessary bolt-on insurance products sold on ridiculous commission is just another reason to leave with a foul taste in your mouth. The pricing structure is as much a work of art as it is pure evil, designed entirely to skirt the edges of the FCA guidelines as closely as possible without getting caught. That being said, the simplest of audits would expose some entirely unsavoury practices in this place... The treatment of suppliers and third-party agencies is no better than that of the customers. Staff are treated with total disdain also, all while stuck in ridiculous dress-codes at head office in poor working environments. The real, true shame is that the actual staff are by and large great people that know what they are doing - if only they were allowed to get on and do it. Ultimately though, the top knobs have made themselves very rich by carrying on like this, so they have no compulsion to change anything at all. Stack 'em high, sell 'em cheap and treat everyone like idiots. I'm embarrassed to have this place on my CV.

    Pros

People are friendly. It's a job that pays the bills at the end of the month

    Cons

So called 'benefits' if you mean the new ones they are ridiculous. Salary not enough for hours and work you do but this is never looked at. No bonus pay, incentives etc compared to others in the same department. Favouritism is rife, if your face fits etc Rewards given to people who just 'do their job' and not those who go over and above. ScS values are a joke, no-one follows them and the management are the... worst. Communication is shocking - the list goes on an on

    Advice to Management

Stop looking after your wallets and reward those who do a good job so you'll keep your good staff. Bring the business up to date and get rid of the old ways of doing things. Listen to the people who do the job and consult them instead of making decisions that impact their role. Not every 'Manager' can do the work their staff do
