I have been working at Scottish Water full-time

    Pros

    • Flexible working, including ability to work from home when required
    • Job security - water isn't going out of fashion any time soon
    • Friendly atmosphere and dedicated staff
    • Lots of family friendly policies
    • Good holiday entitlement
    • Committed to living wage
    • Access to Pool Car
    • Great pension scheme
    • Fairly flat structure
    • Lots of opportunities for career progression
    • Decent training budget and you can do professional qualifications and get them paid for
    • Staff are friendly and everyone is very helpful - there is a "let's get it done" culture

    Cons

    • Salaries in general much lower than private sector
    • Bonus annually is small, as is the performance related pay rises
    • IT systems are under-invested in, meaning there can be some frustration getting things done
    • Sometimes the smallest things seem to take forever to get signed off, with no clear reason why it needs to be seen by 100 people

    Advice to Management

    • Invest more in your IT - you will see the results in efficiency
    • Lobby Scottish Government to reform the out-performance scheme - the bonus and pay rises are really low

I have been working at Scottish Water full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Truly flexible working, I've worked for other companies that claim to offer flexible working but Scottish Water really does.

Delivering a large investment programme over the next 6 years so certain to be plenty of opportunities for employees.

    Defined benefit pension scheme.

    Cons

Salaries appear to be lower than some main contractors
