I worked at Scottish Water full-time for more than a year

    Pros

I was given good development opportunities and worked with some great people. Good benefits such as generous holiday allowance, access to wellbeing support, retail discounts, flexible working. Option to go on the standby rota to earn more.

    Cons

In the labs they often take people on a temporary contract with the hope that a permanent role will come up before the contract ends, which doesn't always happen. The benefits are only for Scottish Water staff, not those that are temporary through an agency.

I have been working at Scottish Water full-time

    Pros

    • Flexible working, including ability to work from home when required • Job security - water isn't going out of fashion any time soon • Friendly atmosphere and dedicated staff • Lots of family friendly policies • Good holiday entitlement • Committed to living wage • Access to Pool Car • Great pension scheme • Fairly flat structure • Lots of opportunities for career progression • Decent training budget and you can do professional qualifications and get them paid for • Staff are friendly and everyone is very helpful - there is a "let's get it done" culture

    Cons

    • Salaries in general much lower than private sector • Bonus annually is small, as is the performance related pay rises • IT systems are under-invested in, meaning there can be some frustration getting things done • Sometimes the smallest things seem to take forever to get signed off, with no clear reason why it needs to be seen by 100 people

I have been working at Scottish Water full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Truly flexible working, I've worked for other companies that claim to offer flexible working but Scottish Water really does. Delivering a large investment programme over the next 6 years so certain to be plenty of opportunities for employees. Defined benefit pension scheme.

    Cons

Salaries appear to be lower than some main contractors
