I worked at Scotts LawnService full-time

    Pros

No micro managing, was able to work autonomously. Great office staff. The ability to help others find employment. Changing lives.

    Cons

No flexibility, I was told that as a recruiter I could work from home as needed(kids being sick, out of school). This was a lie, I was told that I had to be in office even though there were 3 other recruiters who worked exclusively from home. I fail to see how this is fair in any way.(I lived 2.4 miles from my office). We were not told if our contracts would be extended after the merger with tru green. We were kept in the dark, it went from a 6 month contract to an I don't know situation. Then we were told October, I'm sorry but I need to know things like this.

When I told my manager that I was offered a new position elsewhere and gave her the opportunity to keep me on, she said "you do what you need to". When I put in my two week notice, she sent me home that day. I hadn't even accepted the other position yet. I was without income for 4 weeks and almost lost my car because of that.

    Advice to Management

Follow through on your promises when you hire people.

    Pros

Great company to work for, laid back but accountable atmosphere encourages teamwork and the people are great. I really enjoy it here.

    Cons

Busy season is just that, very busy.but comp time is given throughout the slower times to make up for it.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing the things you are doing that make this not only a great company, but a great place to work.

    Pros

    Cons

Quotas became unattainable, a lot of walking daily, no bathrooms nearby, work in all weather elements

    Pros

Aside from the sales world, there is very good and understanding management.

    Cons

This company is way too sales focused and as a result the sales teams get away with murder while other departments pay the price. Sales teams are encouraged to turn in 'maybe' customers as sales just to hit their sales numbers each day. There is zero accountability and/or repercussions for the sales teams while other departments are held to extremely high standards. Good, hardworking, honest employees are being chased away because of this and I am soon to be one of them.

    Advice to Management

Stop allowing sales teams to rule the company. We wouldn't be anywhere without sales, but we could be so much more with GOOD sales.

I have been working at Scotts LawnService full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The best part of this job was the last time I walked out the door. I loved having Sunday only off.

    Cons

Forget everything you know about honesty and integrity when you accept your job offer from Scotts Lawn Service in Elgin. A typical day at work is making about 200+ outbound calls to customers who have previously rejected service or up-selling existing customers. You will be on an automatic dialer talking to people who have already been called and called and called. Management only cares about sales numbers for the day and going golfing. The hardest part of this job is working 70+ hours a week, only getting paid for 40 (besides commission) and never seeing your friends or family. The environment is very deceptive, dog eat dog and you will be thrown under the bus.

    Advice to Management

Less lies and false hopes would be a great start. Your employees are people not dogs.

    Pros

Excellent growth opportunities for entry level sales and operations. Great Benefits once you earn a full-time position. Good earning potential for entry level roles. You can advance your career rapidly if you excel at outside sales.

    Cons

Work Life Balance, little recognition from senior leadership for accomplishments.

    Advice to Management

Provide better work-life balance to employees and show better appreciation to employees contributions.
