Pros
When you DO have a team good atmosphere
Cons
Yearly GLINT survey is IGNORED about improving benefits, conditions and systems. Labour budgets cut back to detrimental financial performance and team morale. Sickness levels rocketing due to team being overworked. Store manager's having to work open to close to maintain trading hours due to sickness. Company unable to recruit candidates - reduced labour hours equals small contracts. Yet managers beaten over attrition Despite being part of Kingfisher, very poor benefits package. Sales target failed to reflect current economic and political climate. Thus meaning overperforming management team failing to achieve a bonus. Something which makes the job well paid or not. Numerous minimum wage pay rises mean now sometimes as little as a £1 difference between SA and supervisor role. Trade Up development programme has offended experienced candidates and they have left. From Supervisor to Branch Manager roles. Tired same old same old promotions. Sometimes just "Great Value" not even a promotion .

Pros
The people - at first they are you colleagues but will soon become your mates. The hours - recently had hours reduced from 40hrs per week to 37.5hrs per week with no pay reduction. The fun - often have days out to socialise and build team relationships The work - some new comes your way every day. It can be challenging but that's what work is! The security - I have been at Screwfix for over 8 years nobody has lost their job because Screwfix want to reduce its head count
Cons
Kingfisher - Does seem like Screwfix make the big decisions anymore but instead the parent company does. The Pay - Its not bad but it could be a lot better.

Pros
Contracted hours are great at 37.5, on an early you can be home by 3.
Cons
Company used to be a big believer in work/life balance, I used to equally share the ‘bad’ shifts amongst myself and the management team, we all had one late a week, and we took turns doing weekends resulting in working 1 in 3. Now I have to work every other, as well as 6am starts and 8pm finishes multiple times during the week, messing your body clock up and resulting in feeling absolutely drained. I understand this is not bad in comparison to other companies, but if we are going to be like other companies then we will lose our work/life balance, one of the greatest things about screwfix. Promotions, there is no set path for a store manager to be promoted, no training plan, no targets to aim for, just have to keep going and keep asking. If you want progression past store manager this is not the company for you. Final thing company bonus, last year screwfix changed the bonus structure, so whilst screwfix as a business thrived, kingfisher did not, meaning that screwfix managers bonus was nowhere near what it has been, even though we delivered just as much and worked as hard, of course kingfisher still gave out bonus to their managers, even though their results were shocking.

Pros
Great customers BM's who support each other and generally great Area Managers Not a high pressure environment but that's changing From Sa to Bm great opportunity but then you'll need to leave
Cons
Directors that don't see below their level ( Blind to store level issues ) Kingfisher now control Screwfix, Hours cut more and more No training or progression for BM's it's very much a boys club, face fits you'll get promoted

Pros
Great culture with a real can do attitude. Fast paced and full of great people who are passionate for the Brand.
Cons
Salaries and benefits can be lower than average although I believe a lot of work is going into reviewing this. The company is going through a lot of change currently with the 'ONE' Kingfisher agenda. This has brought a number of great opportunities however is changing the business as we know it.

Pros
An energetic and challenging business to work for. Puts the customer at the heart of every decision. Loads of opportunities to move around and progress your career.
Cons
Kingfisher relationship can be frustrating at times and as Screwfix continues to become more important to group the red tape increases.

Great entrepreneurial business, good people to work with and good culture
RecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
People are good to work with, 'can do' culture, not too much hierarchy, Directors walk and talk with the teams. High engagement levels in the stores.
Cons
Edge just being taken off things as Kingfisher (owners) take more control.

Pros
When I joined initially it was a very supportive business, with family values, and great opportunities for progression.
Cons
Its now loosing its identity, certain managers are bully boys who have no consideration for their team's, its all about Kingfisher....where has it gone wrong?

Pros
Great teamwork - Supportive - Little ego - Lots to do - Customers love what we do - Can really make a difference - Always something new - Fantastic business model - Constantly innovating - Backing of large, global parent company
Cons
So 'can do' and forward-looking that we could plan for the future and learn from the past a bit better. Finding our way working more closely as part of the wider Kingfisher Group brings challenges and opportunities. Investment in customer-facing IT has left internal infrastructure a fair way behind.
