I have been working at Seagate Technology full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good package eg private healthcare, company sick pay, bonuses

    Cons

Arrogant and aggressive work culture. Cumbersome bureaucracy. All levels of professional staff do their own admin tasks, wasting valuable professional skills. A total of 5 admin staff for a factory of 1400.

    Advice to Management

Appreciate the lower levels of worker.

I have been working at Seagate Technology full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    - Generally its a good working environment and the teams of people working there are what make it enjoyable. I have no regrets about joining the company.
    - Technically challenging, never dull.
    - Onsite Gym and training classes promote healthy living.
    - Onsite canteen is reasonably good and well priced.
    - Healthcare is provided however dental cover is not provided.
    - Life insurance is provided.

    Cons

    - Flip/flop night shifts are very challenging on employees, thankfully I work a day rotation and have not done nights in many years.
    - Pension contributions from the company are inadequate at 5% and are a ticking timebomb for retirees from the company. Compared to pensions in the public sector its around a third of what the employer pays. Don't expect to retire rich unless you have made private investments as well.
    - Management are not quick enough to identify people who are being overloaded with work and address it.
    - A lot of concern over the technology reaching end of life so there are worries about longevity and how the plant will be used in future.
    - Keep getting messages that the companies projections for storage still look fine but no payrise this year even though there was a bonus. Due to inflation being high this is a pay reduction for employees and contradicts the "positive message" that the senior teams are trying to convey. Payrises show confidence in the future. Bonuses only show confidence in the very near term and quite frankly are a hollow short term way of appeasing employees.
    - General feeling that cost effectiveness will become a priority over the coming years and that purse strings will be tightened.
    - Office environment is a bit dull to work in and definitely could be brightened up to make it a more pleasant place to be. The carpets are heavily stained for example but never get replaced. The colour scheme is really dull and lighting leads to a lot of computer screen glare. Seats are often damaged or falling apart and don't get cleaned or replaced so the office looks fairly grotty for visitors coming on site.

    Advice to Management

Be realistic about the message you are sending to employees. If you have confidence in the company then continue to give inflation linked focal payrises as a minimum. Consider increasing pension contributions. Stop trying to prop up the share price by giving such a large dividend. Consider spending some money on the office itself and brighten the place up and replace the old tired furniture, carpets and chairs as needed.

I have been working at Seagate Technology full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Nice colleagues
    Good work-life balance
    Learning opportunities

    Cons

    Salary could be better!,
    Frequent job cut,
    Less foresightedness in technology roadmap
    Less brain in upper management

    Advice to Management

Please assign some technologically sharp bright minded people to redifine the technology roadmap of the company. Resources are not well distributed in the R&D. Needs to address the botleneck of delivering any future product and invest money accordingly to solve that problem which will expedite the new products shipment.

I have been working at Seagate Technology full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The shift pattern is probably the best positive side to working as a Production Operator. 4 x 12 hour Shifts and then 4 days off. The health care plan is good but increasing excess charges are eroding it's popularity.

    Cons

Never have i ever worked in a company where there are so many managers. we have managers with nobody to manage. 35% Shift Workers to 65% day staff. WD produce as many and varied drives as we do with far less staff thus increasing their profit margin on each one sold. Dissemination of information from the top to the production floor leaves a lot to be desired.
Tools left idle due to the lack of spare parts. Ageing tools that are hard to source spare parts for. For this production facility to move into the next generation of media storage requires a very large investment in up to date tools and a serious overhaul in how the facility is managed and run.
Finally for a world leader why are we always playing catchup with new markets and technology. We have missed the boat more times than a drunken sailor on shore leave...
Nice to see that you are finally taking SSD seriously with your recent acquisitions...

    Advice to Management

Streamline management...Overhaul the appraisal system..IT IS NOT WORKING ..
