I worked at Seattle Genetics full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Some departments are excellent. There are a large number of innovative, driven, hard-working employees who work at Seattle Genetics. Corporate goals around advancing novel therapies are laudable. CEO has great energy, enthusiasm and seems committed to sharing information and insights regularly. Events thrown for achieving corporate milestones were a blast!

    Cons

The top-down management style common in senior leadership stifles decision making and energy of team leads. The need to generate consensus (often in a series of one-on-one meetings with each individual team member prior to the actual meeting) deters innovative thinking and creates an environment where one must be wary of speaking honestly / openly. Bit of the "good ol' boy" attitude lingers among those for whom...

I have been working at Seattle Genetics full-time

    Pros

Impressive scientific effort in advancing cures for cancer. Are able to quickly advance regulatory filings to get approvals in record time. Stock is doing well. Lots of free food. Have free yoga classes on site.

    Cons

If you have experience working at other biopharma companies, you`ll be disappointed with the antiquated, inadequate, poorly thought out systems, operations and culture the company has in place. The majority of the staff seem to have not worked at other biopharma companies; most seem to have been here for 20 years. There`s a culture similar to that of a good-ol'-boy organization in certain departments. Middle management...

    Advice to Management

Management needs to work on changing the culture; make it a #1 priority. Work towards eliminating micromanagement techniques (especially rewarding for it) and mindset that are entrenched in the organization. Work towards shifting the mentality of the employees from one of still thinking they`re an R&D company to one that embraces change, and recognizes that what worked even 10 years ago is not adequate or appropriate...

      Pros

Impressive CEO! Wonderful commitment to patients and science. So much potential to be a great company.

      Cons

Location - not in Seattle, not even close. Unless you live close to Bothell campus, traffic is really bad. Car-dependent campus. Benefits - if you are coming to SeaGen from out of state biopharma, the salary and benefits may be rather disappointing. You will be surprised by the outdated IT systems, business processes and HR policies. The campus is large, but has no cafeteria and no gym. Management has the type of...

I have been working at Seattle Genetics full-time

      Pros

Company is trying to become better and more diversified. CEO is very passionate and committed to the company.

      Cons

      1. Most people have only been working for Seattle Genetics their entire career and have little experiences of doing things differently. Overall the company is resistant to make changes as they hold on tight the old SeaGen way of doing things. 2. Unnecessary complicated governance and operation processes slow things down. Lots of time wasted to generate slides and presentations rathan than focusing on real work and deliverables....

      Advice to Management

The SeaGen way is not necessarily the best and the only way. Time to have a wake up call to shape up the senior management team. Simplify the operation management and processes.
