I have been working at Severn Trent full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Willing to take a chance on staff and develop them, there are lots of opportunities to progress in the organisation.

    Cons

Overall direction the business is heading in isn't always 100% clear, objectives at times can also be muddled

    Advice to Management

    Keep open communication with staff

I worked at Severn Trent full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

STW is a great place to work and grow as an individual- from the offset emoloyees are made to feel welcome and from personal experience, integrate into the teams quickly.

    Cons

I don’t really have a bad word to say- I would definitely recommend to anyone particularly if they are looking at apprenticeship schemes.

I have been working at Severn Trent full-time

    Pros

Some good managers. Yearly bonus. Discounts. Rewards. Community benefits.

    Cons

Soo big you get lost. All decisions made by business leads and you aren’t necessarily listened to. Expected to work tirelessly and endlessly. Difficult to get time off. Constantly monitored by stats.

    Advice to Management

If you’ve been there too long - leave! You’re impacting young people’s lives. Listen to the people on the ground, they’re human. Recruit within more. Push for development- people are willing to work!

    Cons

Very slow to change, laser pen mentality. Lack of direction.

    Pros

    Good people
    Teams work for each other

    Cons

Teams work in isolation, little regard for the bigger picture
    No consequences to missed deadlines

    Advice to Management

There has to be consequence for deadlines being missed

I have been working at Severn Trent full-time

    Pros

    The CEO
    The building in Coventry
    The Costa coffee
    The holidays

    Cons

    No senior mgt accountability
    No delivery
We were promised 15 months ago that agile was the way forward and we were going to accelerate outcomes and deliver £120m worth of projects - only 15 months to go and still have over £100m to go with no substance behind agile - it is the emperors new clothes
Constantly feel bullied to get on board with something that doesn’t work or exist - agile
Truly abysmal / non-existent strategic leadership

    Advice to Management

Have a long hard look at what hasn’t been delivered
Figure out why it hasn’t been delivered - agile
Look at the attrition and increase in serious service tech issues (no investment or understanding any longer in basic tech sustainability and issues being dressed up as someone’s else fault when it is the current crew who are steering the wrong course)
Stress test all promises made by tech senior mgt - nothing really being done in background. Smoke and mirrors at their best
Rhetoric wins over any tangible delivery
Look at strategy promises. I heard that cloud was the answer but that was from people who don’t understand technology. Total nonsense.
We are heading for years of total carnage through efficiencies off the back of rank poor strategic tech management. Sort it out now or we will all leave for other more appealing opportunities in local area - anywhere but here
Get an external org to do an independent review of the issues on the 4th floor. It is more deep rooted than a few malcontents

    Pros

Inspiring CEO, with a strong Exec. Nice building to work in, some lovely people, who genuinely want to help and care so much about their customers, quite often to the detriment of themselves.

    Cons

Old culture still exists - non delivery tolerated & excused - cover your backside is in existence at strategic lead level - hate to say but if you have bad day at work, it becomes a bad year when you have annual performance review, as people fight to protect their own interests - IS typifies

    Advice to Management

Stop allowing strategic leads to use one bad day as a reason to punish someone for a year+ - IS

    Great Work/life balance
    Flexibility
    Lots of responsibility and autonomy
    Great benefits
    People are great
    Great internal opportunities
    Amazing senior leadership

    Cons

    Pay structure is very hidden
Processes can be slow and clunky
    Can be unreceptive to change

    Advice to Management

Be more open about the pay structure, it shouldn’t be a hidden thing people are scared to discuss.
Manage performance and talent in the business better.

I worked at Severn Trent full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Inspirational CEO
Important service organisation, great focus on customer service and building a water legacy for future generations
    Pay and benefits
    Flexible working

    Cons

Very limited progression opportunities - constantly recruiting externally instead of promoting from within.
Definitely a blame culture - senior management and executive team always looking to blame individuals rather than providing an opportunity to learn and develop
HQ in Coventry is terrible location to commute by car
Parking on site is expensive and there is a very long waiting list and it’s expensive to use local cat parks
