I have been working at Severn Trent full-time for more than 20 years

    Pros

STW offers a brilliant benefits package. Their intentions towards customers is fantastic, whilst sometimes processes get in the way of actually delivering this intention. Development and career progression is possible, and the company strives to provide every individual with a Development Plan. Achieving and delivering this can be hit and miss

    Cons

As with any large organisation it can feel that at times, the numbers overtake the people who work their and become the priority. Senior Leadership suggest they listen to their people however sometimes fail to actively acknowledge what has been said and make assumptions based on perception.

    Advice to Management

Don’t forget your people - they are the lifeblood of this organisation. Don’t be focused on numbers - number and performance are obviously very important and key, but shouldn’t be the be all and end all when a customer is at the end of the line. Don’t treat middle management like they are robots. Just because they’re in a senior position, shouldn’t mean they have no emotions. Support these people and their engagement...

    Cons

It feels as though Business Leads don't listen to the people on the ground. Decisions are made with no or little consultation. There are managers and business leads who are very knowledgeable yet have no people management skills. More travelling than the average desk job. Something to bear in mind especially if you have limited mileage. In the short time I have worked for the company, I have seen people leave...

    Advice to Management

Please actively listen to the people on the ground. Please consult with staff on changes that will affect them. Internal candidates should be awarded the same salary as external candidates. It's the same job so why is it different?
