I worked at Severn Trent full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Honestly, the only pros were the few nice people I met. Most other people I thought were friends were backstabbing me to the manager even when they made such similar minor mistakes before. BEWARE OF SNAKES

    Cons

Nepotism is rife. Huge blame, face that fits and favouritism culture by managers. Jumping through hoops all the time. Even fellow colleagues who you think are friends snitch on your small mistakes to get into the management good books. A wise old colleague warned me about snitching and backstabbing by fellow colleagues. Far too many team meetings and performance reviews. If management don't like you they will put you on performance improvement, and then manipulate the sheets to make you look bad, eventually dismissing you when probation ends. Management and senior management have FAR too much time on their hands, always looking for and over analysing minor employee mistakes made half a year ago. Corporate box tickers with underhand management tactics. Computer systems have over complicated a practical job. DO NOT APPLY. Ridiculous number of health and safety procedures and red tape. Simple jobs have become so complex.

    Advice to Management

Let employees do their jobs, stop blaming employees for very minor things. Stop favouritism and face that fits culture. Treat all employees equal. You have far too much time on your hands and all you do is order endless team meetings.

I worked at Severn Trent full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Worked for 30 years for STW. Enjoyed the variety, passion for customer service and focus on staff development. If you are willing to put the effort in then there are lots of opportunities available.

    Cons

Often utilities are perceived as boring. This could not be further from the truth - they face some major challenges - climate change, water scarcity & affordability.

    Pros

Staff are really friendly and career progression and training opportunities are great. Company looks after their staff well with lifestyle schemes

    Cons

There isn’t much that is really bad about Severn Trent water, they have always looked after me. Sometime there can be a lot of travelling between sites but I suppose that is par for the course with a large organisation

I have been working at Severn Trent full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I've worked at a number of engineering companies in the past and I would say that Severn Trent Water is a great place to work. They are well led and extremely supportive in training and career development.

    Cons

Sometimes process (or lack of) can get in the way but this seems to be getting addressed. Things are definitely going in the right direction!
