Pros

- Well paid role (wasn't worth it in the long run) - Pretty decent benefits (discount at various stored etc)

Cons

For those who don't know, SSCL is an outsource solution to some of the public sector services such as HR / Recruitment/ Training etc. Their sole purpose is to make money off the public sector, something we were constantly reminded of was the amount of money the company had to make by 2020. Most staff are ex public sector who were laid off and then re-hired into SSCL. Most don't even have job titles in order to make it easier for them to be moved around the company into other various roles. I was part of a new team which I believe was born out of a mass laying off of staff. Management then realised that they'd fired almost an entire department with little thought for the consequences and the services they were contracted to provide for the public sector. As a result of this, my team and I were greeted by angry clients from day one and we had to clean up the mess our manager had made as all previous data and ongoing projects had been lost when the dept was let go. Don't get me started on work life balance - its none existent. The company boasts growth, new clients and profits when in reality they're absorbing more public sector services while continuing to sponge money off the tax payer. A client in the public sector who I liaised with would remind me that she knew where to get our work done cheaper but she was contractually bound to use SSCL where the decision was out of her hands. I had to leave in the end as I was tired of empty promises in the hope that we'd help our clients save money and provide a good service. I was tired of the constant pulling from one thing to another in order to tidy the mess my manager made as well as having to deal with my own workload. I could not stand to have my career under her influence anymore.

Pros

Literally nothing. I genuinely can’t think of a single pro. Oh wait the canteen is one of the better ones out there

Cons

Useless, inept management who get wound up when it becomes apparent how little they know. Zero training when dealing with something as imperative as government workers PAY. Clearly SSCL and the government have zero respect for the fact that normal people have to pay bills to survive as SSCL refuses to act on late pay and underpayment for their clients who call up AND THEIR OWN STAFF. I was paid late several times for things that were THEIR mistake and the attitude was ‘tough luck’. I was sacked for daring to be ill which plunged me into debt. I spoke to clients on the phone who worked for the DWP who cried to me on the phone because they hadn’t been paid and we couldn’t tell them when they would be paid and SSCL couldn’t care less. The government ought to be ashamed as by continuing to outsource this they are approving of it

Pros

Some amazing people. The benefits are brilliant. Flexi is great.

Cons

They like to ruin a good thing. If you find you’re in a team that works well together, don’t get used to it. They’ll split it. Also you’re not paid enough for what you do. Management are puppets for those above. No room for moving up unless you’re a favourite of the managers. You can be well experienced and a team favourite but you’ll miss out if you’re not the managers favourites.
